I knew the gun they mounted in the nose of the A10 Warthog was a rather large and rapidly discharging beastie - but I didn't realise it was *that* big. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/GAU-8_meets_VW_Type_1.jpg
I bet. They were quite spooky re the way they seemed to hang in the air (the way paving slabs don't) and yet could climb away with what sounded (engine wise) like little fuss? Anyway, I still I blame them for distracting me from my skeet shooting. ;-( T i m
ISTR reading that they can only fire for a few seconds at a time, as the recoil slows the plane down too much. But that might be a myth. D.

On our honeymoon (honestly!) at Saltfleet (long story) we were disturbed by them practising at Donna Nook, just up the beach, well mudflats, a bit. They didn't worry the Seals at all ... Awesome kit, makes the strangest noise when they really let rip. !
That's what makes them exciting, IMHO. You look and think, slow piece o' shit. Then the pilot fires, and you're like, **** _me_... D.
