Today must have been the first day ever, that I was so kitted up going
    to work.

    I had:

    - Waterproof trousers: Bering. Good kit, light, cheap at €35. A zip up
the side of both legs and double lined. Kept most of the cold off the
    legs. Recommended.
    - Overboots: Bering again. about €35 too. Apart from it feeling like I
was wearing flippers, they kept the feet fairly warm.
    - Jacket: Hein Gericke Dynatec Schoeller. Gortex too. The Dog's nads.
I bought this for around €500, two or three years ago. Covers the neck
perfectly with a wraparound thingy. Removable lining for summer use.
Absolutely bloody great in the most torrential rains. Never lets a
drop of water in ANY of the usual areas. The best jacket I've ever
    bought, without a doubt.
    - Winter gloves: Alpinestars at about €90. very comfortable with a
good overlap onto my jacket. Good knuckle protection and a strip of
material which holds the little/index fingers together in the event of
    a fall. Gortex too.
    - Glove liners: Can't remember how much these cost. Added insulation,
    very good.
    - Helmet: Shoei Multitech at about €550. very nice, not too noisy for
a fliptop lid. Has anti-fog insert which works really well.
    - Tube scarf : made by Buff. A present, so no idea of the cost.
Material on the top and fleece on the bottom. Can use as a scarf or
anything else that a tube can mould itself into.

I probably looked a bit like a spaceman, but I was damn comfortable.
    Your recommendations?

    Bullson (HG) Sheltex boots
Alpinestars Jet Road GTX or 365 GTX gloves
    HG silk glove inners
    HG thermal long-johns
HG Cruise GTX jacket and trousers
Arai Astro lid of some variety or other with Pinlock insert
    BMF freebie neck tube

Generally does the trick. Fingertips (particularly thumb) can get a bit
    chilly though.

Having said that, with it being cold, slippery and a bit wet, I'm taking
the tube. Gives me a chance to work through the christmas haul of books.

Given the lack of grip out there at the moment, I'd just as soon not
bother and use the tube instead.

Worst case is delays or no service, in which case I deploy all-purpose
    plan B.

  11. Spada gloves (paid for with my own money)

Hein Gericke top-line two-piece winter suit (not paid for with my own
    money).

Brand unknown traditional four-buckle leather boots with lots of polish
and dubbin applied. They did me for the Elefant last year, as well. £30
from an autojumble, and they're superb.

Caberg lid. Oh, and a screen on the GN250.

Hmm. Not some anti-recommandations, but this is what I have:

    Recommanded
    ------------------------

Spyke jacket - not the warmest but totally waterproof and very
stylish. Was fine in the hard frost last Sunday evening. I love this
jacket. Trouble is. I'm even more afraid of falling off in case I
    trash it.

Buffalo winter gloves - unknown model. Reasonably warm, waterproof and
have lasted.... err, I forgot exactly when I bought them. A few years
    ago.

AGV Ti-Tech lid. Easy visor removal, quiet, comfortable. Yes, I know
Lozzo hates them. Earlier model lightly crash tested at Silverstone a
few years ago; helmet written off but no complaints from me.

Freebie neck tube off a Bike magazine, I think. Thin enough to fit
    jacket collar but warm enough.

Piece of kitchen roll to wipe thet bloody greasy road shit off the
    visor.

Guzzi with warm rocker covers to rest a hand on once in a while.

    Not recommended
    -----------------------------

Wolf overtrousers - warm and waterproof in steady rain but last 30
    seconds in a serious downpour.

Alpinestar boots - unknown model. Not really a winter boot. Gave me
blisters last week when I walked a mile home after suffering a
puncture. Bloody great wide leather flaps over the inboard-mounted
zips with shit velcro to retain them. Repaired a couple of times but
the flap near the heel catches in the V11's sidestand as I kick it up.
    Otherwise, have lasted OK.

They took away our newgroup access at work, I got a "friendly" warning
about using proxies to get around it and my evenings tend to be full so
I've gradually dropped out of here.
