I studied law (not as part of a law degree, just a general course) in the US
where veritas is absolute, and I knew that verity was also an absolute
defence in the UK, so I fondly assumed it was part of common law in
Australia as well. I'm utterly appalled. Thanks for pointing that out.

No wonder our fuckwit politicians and corporate shitheads can get away with
so much! I'd be willing to suggest that HIH would not have been quite the
debacle it was if the libel laws were not as they are.

just collected what responses came.
Berating the group in general for its lacklustre response, and all the
specific examples that Manning has so wonderfully listed.

You weren't just disagreeing with the norm, you were asking everyone else
too as well.

I called you an ignorant gimp - check.
I explained the difference between libel and slander - check.
I pointed out that none of my first post could be considered slander or
libel - check.
I observed that I was happy to consider my second post defamatory - check.
I speculated that you couldn't win the suit of defamation because for libel
to occur, it needs to be demonstrated that a reputation was further damaged,
and I don't think that is possible for you - check

There, done. All fairly objective in my opnion.

Please Kiwipete, I haven't tried to insult you at all, other than maybe
suggesting you've insulted more ppl than Hatz.
In fact, 'twas this argument that brought me out of semi-lurk status, so
following the line comment is hardly fair.

I'm not disagreeing with you initial posts or reasons for it, however, you
said something like, I'll sit back quietly now for the results and filter
out the worthwhile ones... if you had done that, fine, but you did fight
fire with fire when people abused you, and followed up with a comment saying
you were disappointed with the lacklustre response. People like me who
thought that your post may have been in the wrong forum, and as such,
politely ignored it, can only be aggreived when we are accosted by you a
second time, bemoaning the lack of responses.

I can think for myself, and do, and find it discouraging and perhaps a
little worrying that you are so keen to accuse me of following someone elses
agenda. Do you believe that the majority of any voting group cannot think
for themselves? Or perhaps it is just that they all think, and funnily
enough, think alike?
