KJM Superbike...anyone?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Porridgewog SV1k, Jan 13, 2007.

  1. Has anyone here any opinion and/or experience of KJM Superbike?

I'm thinking of chopping my SV10000k3 in for a new Gixxer 750 this year.
KJM are doing NOS K5s for £5.7k with a Meta alarm. I realise they're not
official UK bikes but hey ho...

    TIA

Ask exactly where the bike was built for, find out if you can convert
the speedo to mph and alter the headlight to dip on the left and then
do the figures again. If it's still cheaper then go for it because you
don't have to go back once you've collected the bike.

I don't know what the different specs are for different countries but
you'll probably get the answers from one of the Suzuki forums if
nobody here comes up with a sensible answer.

Why buy a gixxer 750 with a NOS kit on...?

Why not buy a thou and have nearly as much power in a bike that's designed
from the ground up to handle it?

A good few years ago I bought an Aprilia RS125 from them, brand new.
After the free first service KJM never saw it again for two reasons:

    1) It had enough petrol to get it three corners away from the
dealership before dying and having to go on reserve.

    2) When I booked it in for said service they were adamant they were
open until 5 on a Sunday (despite me questioning the fact, and asking
why they opened their workshop at the weekend despite every other
dealer keeping theirs shut). True enough, it was shut. When I asked the
following day what their game was, they denied all knowledge.

They must do something right as this was some 6 or 7 years ago and
they're still here. I did look at their site when I was looking for a
10R but they were quite pricy compared to the competition.

The clue is the TM logo after Concourse: US model so a grey import.
Although the US site now lists the 1400cc version being launched this year
    http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/Detail.aspx?id=220

    We're getting it too:

No price yet. Hopefully it will deprciate as rapidly as the GTR1000 so that
I might get a bargain in 2 years time....

  8. Who are their competition? By that I mean who else sells similar for
similar money? I checked Taz and D&K but they only do K6 gixxers and
they're about a grand more and whilst still a very good price at £6.5k, it's
a bit over my budget. Maybe I should think about a nearly new UK bike.
Hmmmm, I'd hoped this was going to be easy...

    Cheers

I thought the same as you, if that's any help
Only gurls ride thous.... Everyone knows that 750s (or 2-stroke 500s) are
the proper man's choice. In fact, ISTR this bloke who was really made up at
riding a 750 V-4 this one time at EOSM camp, when I was on my own 500cc
stroker and there was this video and............ :^P

But seriously, I haven't owned a 'proper' litre sportsbike (the Daytona
isn't exactly 'sports' in the same way, is it?) but I had loads of fun on my
750 keeping up with and occasionally getting round litre bikes on track days
just because it didn't have too much power. In fact I even did the same
sort of thing (in the corners) on the FZR250, just that I got passed on
every straight on that. I didn't on the 750. If I'd had a thou' I might
have had to throttle off a bit and/or binned it.... Maybe.

Of course those French 106bhp Gixxer Thous are a piece of piss to ride...
    :)

I will always be grateful for the ride on the RC they sound just, well...
perfect. I was surprised how little power they made compared to the gixxer
but riding it wasn't about power, it was the noise... that beautiful flat v4
sound that only RCs make, and of course it handled like it was on rails.

With regard to the power on the litre bike I think half the challenge of
riding it is to know when you can and can't use all the horses.
