Knew those spare BMW panniers would come in handy

    and as it was 10 minutes from work, even had a test ride on it. Nice
    K100RS, but I told the seller that without panniers, I reckoned it would
    make £700-750.

    Not sure what to do with it now. Number One Son comes off his 33bhp
    purdah in a few months, mind...

    It could always be parted out on Ebay - mine fetched over a grand in
    bits.
    Want a Haynes manual for it (£0) ? I found one in the garage this
    afternoon.

  7. It is. A few scabby bits on the frame etc, but easily touched in. It
    smoked on start-up, like they do, but then ran clean. Sounded perfect.
    Everything works, even the digital gear indicator. Tyres haven't got
    much life left in them. And comes with toolkit and an A4 wallet of
    history. And a new MoT, of course.

    The bod selling it, Andy, used to work at L&C and worked with Brian
    Giles. He remembered servicing the bike at L&C. He also said that Brian
    was his apprentice - Brian reckons not :)

    The seat cover is the problem. They're actually riveted in place. But
    I've got a pop riveter and a staple gun, so I daresay it can be sorted.
    A replacement cover is only £20 from Motorworks.

    Is a driveshaft spline lube advised for the older-stylee Ks, btw?
    I was thinking it's more or less son-proof insofar as it's quite hard to
    break a K.

    Essential rather than advisable. Also very useful if you can see the job
    has been done to avoid costly repairs. Some recommend (me included)doing
    it every tyre change as the extra work to pull off the bevel box with
    the wheel out is minimal, but otherwise 10 k miles.

    BM club recommend gasket goo to keep water out so that might be a sign
    the job has been done.

    Otherwise difficult to judge as it is not as obvious as a clunky UJ.
