Korean Motorbikes

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Dr. Sir John Howard, AC, WSCMoF, Mar 19, 2009.

  1. I was going past a local gym when an unusual motorbike caught my eye.

I just had to stop and have a look. The bike was an Hyosung Aquila. I recognised
the name as Korean right away but I never knew Koreans make motorbikes. Anyway,
a quick search on Google pulled this up http://www.hyosung.com.au/

This was the bike outside the gym
    http://www.hyosung.com.au/Products/GV650-Aquila.html
although the trim colour was a bluish-aqua colour not listed there.

Anyone ever tried one of these bikes?

Slightly off topic, but what is the colour of the sky in the world where you

Oh, no particular reason - just the Hyosung seems to have been around in
Australia for something like seven years or so, based on the age of second
    hand ones on sale.

Apparently they are quite popular here in SA with the learner brigade as the
650 is learner legal and inexpensive; although I believe it comes with some
sort of power restriction if you happen to have P plates.

One of the members of the m/c club I belong to has one, and is quite
impressed with it on a value for money basis, although he will be happier
when he gets off P plates and can have the restrictor removed (legally).

    Cheers

A Hyo, yes, one of those, no .. as a brand they are pretty decent value.

You're likely to find a few at your nearest Hyosung dealer ..

On a side note, a lovely "30th anniversay" Hyo cruiser was out the back
of Rock's the other day. Had a glossy candy apple red frame and the rest
was a very very dark grey/black. Quite nice actually.

  8. I'm in NSW. Its the first one I'd ever seen. Of course, I haven't really been
looking. This particular one just stood out like a sore thumb amidst all the
scooters lined up outside the gym.

  9. I can't say I'm aware of any dealers near me. I might go looking if I get some time.
Yes, this one looked quite good too. If I see it again, I might take some photos
and put them up on the net.

I've got one of their 49cc scooters - goes alright. It will
comfortably do 60km/hr around town. In theory it is speed
limited to 50km/hr, but I guess a wire came loose ;-)

My nephew has a GT650 I think it is, he's pretty happy with it.
As a brand, they seem to be pretty well priced. I got the
hyo scooter because it was slightly larger than the other
49cc scoots I looked at, it was about $1k cheaper, and it
had more get up and go. It's had to have a couple of things
done under warranty, but mostly pretty good.

  12. Carol quite liked her 250. Much better than a Virago 250. Bigger bike
with more stability. Longer legs for the highway runs. Capable of
sitting on 110 all day. Free revving engine. 280 km range before reserve.

The OEM chain and sprockets didn't last long (around 5000), but
aftermarket stuff was still going very nicely thank you at 15000 when
she upgraded to a Shadow 750.
