I'm not happy about the way it's been done, but reading between the
lines, they didn't have enough entries. You can't run a 24 hour race
with, say, only 20 starters - it'd be a joke, as well as losing a
    whole bunch of money.

They should have had the closing date for entries ages ago, rather
than last weekend - then they'd have known well in advance. I
wouldn't be surprised if racing in the UK at the moment just doesn't
have enough money to support such an event.

Somewhere other than the arse end of Norfolk? [1]

[1] I know, logistically it's not really possible - btu Snetterton really is
in the middle of nowhere in terms of viewing/accomodation etc

It is not really the arse end either, by Norfolk standards Snetters is
frighteningly close to the motorway and other good links to the office
    of the Witchfinder General.

Although as a day trip I would have thought it is closer to more
interested fan type folks than Brands.

"MotorSport Vision are committed to introducing a 24 hour
motorcycle event at Snetterton in 2006, but in a format that
attracts the commitment of the 50 teams required to make it a
    promotable attraction."

How many formats can you have for a 24 hour race?

    24 hours in a row
    3*8 hours
    2*12 hours
    4*6 hours

    Microsoft format (lots of crashes)
    Unix format (lots of whining)
    Solaris format (YTC)

    Heh.
8 hours is a joke, we should lobby for the standard 6 hour. we know how
to do that. Where the **** did they pull 8 from.
All said Snett is pretty useless for a 24. Lack of facilities on and
around the track, accommodation for families etc. Then again where in
    England is any better.

I don't "know". The text strongly implies lack of entries.

Snetterton was an 8 hour race last year.

I'd have thought that more teams would have jumped at the chance, it
would have been a pretty unique experience. Are there that many teams
    on a shoestring budget?

Was the points profile going to be the same?

Sympathy for the circuit tho, a 24hr race must cost easily 5x as much
    to run.

8 hours is where they started! The very first endurance race KRC ran
was an 8 hour. For some years the "Snett 8 hour" was a standalone
event. As I understand it, one of the prime movers behind KRC runnig
endurance races was a chap called Mike Lewis, and when he died the
prize for the Snett 8 hour became the "Mike Lewis Trophy".

So, in fact, 8 hours at Snetterton has a much longer pedigree than any
    other format.

I had a natter with some of them in our class when we were last at
Snetters. There were those, like us, who would have a go if they could
and those who would like to if they could. Reasons for not having a go
were usually about the issues of servicing the needs of a team for
24hrs. It is a big logistical jump from 6 to 24 hours.
