You do realise WP haven't used the name 'White Power' for nearly 20
years, yes? Somehow I doubt you're fitting some 20 year old forks to an
    F650.

Hey Krusty, we're showing our age it seems!

I see at the WP Suspension site that they've officially changed it
(for obvious reasons - kind of an unfortunate name), though to
maximise search engine results they get in a mention of 'White Power'.

I think if you discuss White Power suspension most people know what
you're talking about. I have done an edit at our site to clarify.

    Cheers,

If they were worried about search engines, they'd include it in the
keywords meta-tag & probably on the homepage, which they don't. It's on
the Company History page, which is to be expected.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if including the phrase 'white power'
gets your site blocked by all sorts of corporate block lists.

KFC don't use "Kentucky Fried..." any more either but people still know who
    you're talking about!

Krusty, good point about block lists, I think I'll take those words
off our site. Thanks for your wisdom and counsel.

    <checks website>

Err... apart from at the top of every page of their site, you mean? And
even if they didn't, Kentucky Fried Chicken is a harmless phrase,
whereas White Power has been adopted by the mouth-breathing fuckwits of
    the world.
I'm not saying people won't know who White Power were (although I'll
bet there's plenty of teens & twenty-somethings who only know them as
WP Suspension). But anyone thinking of doing this type of mod will
almost certainly know they're WP forks, so why bother referring to a
company name that was abandoned two decades ago?

Obviously you must be in a different country to me then.
There's scant mention of Kentucky etc in the Australian KFC website.
    http://www.kfc.com.au/Default.asp?page=/home

Funnily enough; "White Power" isn't a particularly significant term here in
Australia either. Despite "Romper-Stomper" we've never really had much of a
    Neo-Nazi presence....
It's a bit like foreplay; we've heard of it and we know how it works but
no-one is particularly interested in it.

For no particularly good reason (ie I can't think of a single excuse as
to why I did so) I compared the UK, Oz and US websites for KFC based on
    the above.

The Americans clearly have no issue with the "fried" word, UK and Oz-
nary a fried to be seen outside of the "our history" pages

There's not a helluva lot of difference in obesity rates between the
three so maybe UK and Oz are just in denial.

Or maybe it's just something to do with the franchises, & they're not
allowed to refer to Kentucky Fried Chicken outside the US.

Doubt it; they used the name for 20-odd years.

It was a nutty health-based rebranding exercise.

Just give the whole thing another few years to go full-circle. In five
years they'll discover that trans-fats are actually good for you, at
which stage someone will get paid a fortune to come up with this
    slogan:

    'KFC - It's fried!'

    Waz - 'White Meat Power!'

PS In Quebec they call KFC 'PFK' - 'Poulet Frite Kentucky' - despite
the fact that in France itself the chain is called KFC. Ah Quebeckers,
gotta love em, more pedantic about Frenchness than the French
    themselves.

  18. One really disconcerting problem I saw last summer
on a dirtbike front end swapped onto a heavier BMW
R80 G/S was a failure of the caliper mount tab on the
    fork.

I don't recall the make of the fork, but the caliper mount
tabs were considerably less beefy than those on the
beemer forks and the beemer was considerably heavier
    than the original donor bike.

The rider had applied his brakes hard and the mount tab
actually failed, letting the caliper rotate forward with the
brake disk. He may have also lost one of the two mount
bolts. I'm not entirely sure of everything that went wrong.

Fortunately, this was a solo accident on an empty road.
Definitely not something you want to have happen in a
    panic stop in heavy traffic.

I like the idea of swaps and modifications, but the lesson
on front end swaps seems to be to beware of weight
differences and be extremely paranoid about well matched
components whenever there will be an increase in weight.
