KTM (haha)

After last weekends minor rainfall made the instrument panel on my 690
look as if it'd been immersed in a bowl of water for a few hours I've
been waiting to get hold of the right person at the dealers to have it
    sorted.

Oh dear. It's got to be recovered from my house and taken to the
dealer to be "assessed" before they'll say what the next step is. I
suppose it's a solution but I'd have preferred to have just posted the
offending part to them and fitted a new one myself once it arrived.

The good thing is that KTM have their own recovery service and they've
promised me that someone will be here in under 60 minutes to collect
it but, looking at it another way, it's slightly worrying that KTM
need to have a dedicated recovery service in the first place.

No doubt there'll be more to come regarding this episode but at least
I'm not as gifted as Timo when it comes to murdering bikes...

I'll fire in the predictable response that it'll only be there to
    supply spark plugs.

The 'Tard engine is the 1100DS - DS for Dual Spark.
That's twice as many to go wrong!

I don't know if it's the same on all the models or not. The dealers
seemed a bit sceptical about the whole thing and asked me where I'd
been taking the bike and if it's garaged at night but last weekend was
the first time it hasn't been kept in a garage.

It's probably just a defective seal between the two halves of the
instrument pod but now it's dried out it still doesn't work and the
whole lot looks badly stained by water. New one required.

Well, you bought the entry-level bike for that...

Be fair, I've already got a K series BMW for the expensive problems so
a KTM seemed like a good way to experience new forms of mechanical
    mayhem.

I stopped reading the boxhead group a few years back but given the
stories posted there, there'll be plenty of scope for said new forms.

I still find it hard to believe that a KTM can't cope with a bit of
rain but life would be boring if it didn't contain any surprises.

It's no wonder they wouldn't lend Boorman and McGregor their bikes
because the cunts would never have got to the Channel.
