Today I have mostly been watching the hillclimbers of the next couple of generations having great fun at Wheeldon Farm off-road centre. 10 lads ranging from 6 to 16 let loose on KTMs and Hondas round the indoor MX track they have there. The circuit was much better than it looked from the photos, with some serious bumpy bits and plenty of good tight bends to practice riding the berm. The lad greatly enjoyed riding a KTM65 around and finished up with a session on an XR100 to see how he got on with a physically larger machine. He adapted to the four stroke very well but couldn't better his lap time on the 65. Unfortunately he wasn't quite tall enough to try a very trick KTM150 and they hadn't got a small wheeled 85 available. The excellent instructors managed to cure his poor clutch control, and got him using his weight better. He was pleased to be lapping the 65 within 6 seconds of the 'big boys' on 250s. The owner's 13 year old then finished off with a few awesome demonstration laps on the 150 which put things in to perspective. <goes to search ebay for 85s and find how much the KX65 might fetch> -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------+
