I thought you were AndrewR's alter ego.
I broke my leg, badly enough to require a week's stay in a German
    hospital. The coffee was awful.

    Evidence here.

Where were you? I might have been able to pop over and offer solace.
For my sins[1] I spent a week in a German hospital, hat did you think of
    German daytime TV?

[1] Fell off a bike pissed and broke me collar bone.

AOL and let people help you!
It's a bloody poor show on several fronts and that looks like quite a lump
of metal, do they take it out eventually?

    Traunstein.

I broke out of hospital twice while I was there - it's a pretty town.
I didn't stoop that low. I had ipod, facebook access via my phone and
Michael lent me the books he'd got in his bag. I now know more about
Joyce's Ulysses than I ever wanted to.
    Clumsy ****.

    Cheers Champ.

District nurses are coming later today to change dressings, stab me
with warfarin and advise on crutches/wheelchairs etc. Then docs
tomorrow to get more tablets (that thing they give you when you're on
diclofenac plays havoc with your guts!) and referral to UK fracture
    clinic and physio.
I am finding the lack of mobility and thus control of where I can go
and what I can do difficult. Also concious of not wanting to piss my
willing helpers off with too many demands, so trying to limit my
    'could you just do/fetch' requests.
    I have no idea.

It's an intramedullary nail, and it should be removed within a year or
so. Don't let them leave it too long, or it's harder to get it out; AtWoOWK.

If left in, it can cause obvious further complications for subsequent
fractures, and IIRC there is a possibility of metal fatigue.

I did that. I do hope you made it back for the consultants rounds,
because they get *really* upset if you are a) not there, and b) have to
fessup to having a Latte in town :(

    True :(

A 'motard racer I knew had the same thing, but as he was racing for the
Brit Championship he carried on racing anyway.

It wasn't his best idea. He no-longer races or, indeed, walks very
    well...

That's quite huge. I'm assuming that the metal rod is going down the
side of the bone, or through it?
