I presume yer Dad's rather toasty Bonnie 650 isn't what they had in
    mind when approving that model!

Interesting that they included a number of older (invariably British)
bikes which all have RHS gearlevers. I think this is training 'wrong'
reflex habits for newbie riders, who are quite likely to move on to a
    standard LHS.

The reason such bikes are in the NSW list is that the classic clubs
    worked to get them there.

This is so the wives and kids of the owners could learn and ride on the
    classic bikes.

Dunno how many old bikes you've ridden, I've ridden quite a few. And
have done since I was a learner. It is about as hard to swap feet as it
is to deal with wildly different clutch points and acelleration.

Your learner on an old AJ will have less problem going from their
plonker to midrange modern bike (and if they want an AJ they won't be
wanting an R1) than someone would getting off a GN250 onto an R1.

    Zebee
    - who prefers right side change, followed by left side heel toe down
for go. But manages left side up for go without problems.
