I've done something to my keyboard that keeps the bringing the wrong
characters up on screen. If I hold the Fn key down it's ok, otherwise I
get numbers and the wrong punctuation coming up.

How the **** do I sort it cos this message has taken 5 minutes to type?

sounds like you've accidentally changed the settings so it's not
acting as a UK English keyboard.

on the task bar, is there a little two-letter button just to the left
    of the tool tray?

if you have one, and it's not displaying "EN", click on it and change
what it is displaying to "EN".

  4. Check if it has a Fn Lock button .. mine does this sometimes ... ;)

Might also be a Num Lock function to bring the number pad into play ...

Haven't got the little EN button showing. I tried to change it in
control panel and it was already set to UK English

Go to language settings - it's probably got the wrong keyboard mapping
or similar. Which keys are going wrong, and what are they producing?

Or maybe not, re-reading the stuff about the fn jey...

Sussed it, I must have hit 'number scroll' at some point by accident.

    Cheers for the pointer

You have "NumLk" (on my laptops it is the same key as F11) on.

I would be out there wielding spanners on that CBR of my mate's, if a
fucking engine mounting bolt hadn't sheared when removing it to fit
    crash bungs.

Now waiting for another mate to come round with a BOC Portapak and some
long drills. We'll have the **** out one way or another.

I use a toaster and there are none in the house anyway, or I'd have
    eaten them.

  19. Yes, it still works, the modification can be seen in the top left of
    this picture.

All you need is a flat bladed screw driver, or anything else that will
    prize off the offending key.
