    GT750 does an odd thing.

GT750 starts ok on the choke, runs ok on the choke. Choke in.

A few minutes later it starts to run like shit (feels like a coil has
died), choke back out, still runs like shit, choke back in, still runs
    like shit.

....then after a few minutes it runs perfectly and continues to do so.

This was mentioned a couple of weeks ago and it was thought maybe cracked
insulation on the coil allowing moisture but I've changed the coils and
    sealed them.

It's had new HT leads, caps and plugs, although it had been stood for a
couple of years the carbs had petrol in them when I drained them (except
No.3 as the drain screw wouldn't undo) It seems related to engine
temperature and hasn't always done it.

    Ideas?

Possibly that's why I like it.

It could be a coil giving up again. When the first coil died on it, I
was confused because the symptoms were *exactly* like a fuelling
problem, to the extent that juggling with the choke seemed to have an
effect on it. It didn't die instantly: it played up intermittently for
quite a while first. And then it went zonk, dead.

When the other coil started playing up in the same manner, I was ready
    for it :)

FYI: the same coils are fitted to loads of Kawasakis of that era. But
beware if you're sold Z/GT/GPz550 coils, because while they are indeed
identical, the HT leads are a bit shorter because of the smaller
engine *and they don't fucking reach the outer plug caps*.

    DAMHIKIJK,OK?

However, the HT leads are actually interchangeable rather than sealed
into the coils, so you can swap 'em over.

A cheaper option is just to get some aftermarket high output coils,
which are half the price. When I owned that GT, genuine Kwacker ones
were £70-odd. Luckily I managed to pick up NOS ones in an autojumble
    for about £15.

Anyway, back to the original question. It's a coil.

That's what's confusing me as I'd say exactly that - I've already swapped
them over with a spare one but the interesting thing is it doesn't die
when hot (which is what normally happens) it runs perfectly!

I'll rob the pair off the Turbo and try them.

That's what I thought it was when the coil first went on me!

Easy to check: just turn the tap to Prime and try it like that.

    Bah. The FGFOF(1) DDT(2) (related directly to GPS(3)) says it's a
    sticky choke cable.

Runs on choke when cold. Choke (apparently) in, butterflies actually
still closed. Engine warms up, runs too rich, tries to conk. Choke
(apparently) in and out, no effect. Vibration/heat/time causes the
butterflies to eventually open, bike runs fine - until next time the
    choke is used.

Easy tests - start in the morning without choke and see if it still
happens the same way. Alternately (or additionally) use the choke
when it's hot, then slap it in when the engine starts to splutter and
see if it stops spluttering immediately.

Except that the GT doesn't have a choke cable: push-pull slide jobbie
    on the carb bank.

You know, my theory was fine - right up until you said that. all the
Kwackers from that era had that, didn't they? Buggrit.
