One of the good things about having a beat up old Fizzer and being a big
bloke (not as big as Hammo, but still look big on the Fizzer) is that
everyone assumes its a 250. It looks pretty small without the fairings, and
its got no markings to say what size it is. Close up you could see its got 4
cylinders and wider tyres than a 250, but it passes a cursory inspection.
Needless to say many cage drivers who would otherwise leave a 600 alone give
it a go. None have succeeded.

I did make the mistake of taking on a Fireblade once, and lets just say I
now know where I sit in the food chain.

Ah, but bike-vs-bike is a real contest.

This thread is about contests in the spirit of the Australian Wallabies vs
    Glen Innes Primary School.

It never ceased to amaze me the number of people that wanted to drag when I had a trailer with a
race car attached to my car. Like I was going to even bother! What were they proving?

Now, Glen Innes Primary School vs. the All Blacks - *that* would be a match!

    You cruel evil man!.

Today is a day when I almost wish Kiwipete was around... nothing as pleasant
as kicking someone like KP when they're down...

Sunday morning i was at the lights heading towards kings cross, a WRX pulled up either side of my mate on his rebel 250,
my mate gave it what for to clear traffic (we were late getting somewhere)and got away from the wrx's for all of 7 seconds,
then they got into next gear and the one on the left damnwell cut him off while swinging to the right lane to avoid a car
    parked in a clearway.

Pain in the arse pair of 18y/o boy racers in "daddy's rexxy's. Meanwhile i didnt even frikkin bother trying anything on and
    just trundled along my way.

} Ah, but bike-vs-bike is a real contest.

An MZ 250 (with sidecar and 20kg of ballast) can beat a GSX-R 600 off
the line and across an intersection (some 25m).

Must have been hilarious to watch.

My Econovan was so powerful that I had to convert it to LPG! :-D

(Or was it because a return trip from Canberra to Sydney cost $100 in fuel?)

Heeeey KTR!! How's it going? Now, I wonder who that would have been??? :)

I hope you didn't put that little 2nd gear burst down entirely to a common
    insecurity issue on my part...

Will give you a bell shortly. Whoo-hooo!

    Great one.
What's even more fun to get the guys all revved up at the lights, they
already got the clutch half-out and when the lights turn green
(ahhh...yellow's enough :))......just let 'em go... and watch them burn the
shit out of the ricebox bucking and weaving it's way to the next set of
    lights.
Did it years back with the old FJ12 and a Crappodore SS (early one), he'd
more than likely done it many times before and this time he fried the
    clutch, getting nowhere.
I laughed so hard, had to stop a bit later and find find a suitable bush for
    "relieve".
    Hilarious
    cheers

    <chomp>

I've just recalled an evil episode from many years ago when I drove a then
modern ute delivering tyres all over the nth side of Sydney.

Turning right onto Mona Vale road from the Pac. Hwy in Gordon, a young
dickhead raced around the outside and dangerously forced his way across in
the merge in a Hyundai something (I think), forcing me to lock up to avoid a
sideswipe. This didn't please me immensely and could have been very nasty.

There was some traffic and the ute was waaay quicker than the car, so I
easily caught up and overtook him. He followed me, nose to tail up the left
lane of M.V. Road up towards St Ives, knowing that I was *very* pissed off,
but he kept up his antics.

I accellerated a little, watched ahead in the left lane, and picked a gap in
the lane on the rhs, and at the last second merged right. What he couldn't
see due to the board across the back of the cab on the ute, was that there
was a parked car ahead - and now wally had nowhere to go. I remember losing
sight of him in a cloud of blue and screeching noises and never did get to
see the end result - but my guess is that it would have been *very* close
    indeed...

Now I'm not proud of that by any stretch, but I do remember at the time
(being a 19 or so yr old) feeling immensely satisfied with myself - revenge
had been dealt. Darwinism at play perhaps.

These days I just let such things go most of the time - maybe I'm too old
but also you never know who'se carrying a gun/knife etc.

    hehe

I ride a BMW 1150GS and it suprises me the number of people who try to
out accelerate it across interestions, particularly those where lanes
merge and they want to get in front.

I keep their speed matched to mid way across and then open the throtle
not more than 50% and let that stump pulling engine do its stuff...in
around a second I hit 60, click up a few gears and coast.

The engine would not even pass 4000rpm (50% of redline)...its not even
    a contest, I don't know why they bother...and I don't really know why
I bother most of the time.

Which is why most of the time I don't bother, I already know the GS
rocks! there is nothing I need to prove:)

  17. Yeah, but I bet it wasn't a "commuter bike" any more by the time he was
telling his mates about it at Alburn Maccas...

"There was this fully sick Honda CB1250RR at the lights back there, I
almost had him, but I missed my second gear change then the Brittney
    Spears CD needed changing..."

  18. Thing is, my guess is that most of the time, the wannabe cage racers
    perhaps
I would probably be accused of trying to race bikes in my cage, but in
    reality,
I'm just trying to do the same. i.e. get out in front of the rest of the
    traffic.
(and it does not help that I drive a red Honda CRX )
If I wanted to race bikes, I would be on the RZ500.

  19. Ah, reminds me of the early days on the Suzuki GS250FWd. (hardly a
    powerhouse)

Coming back from lunch on Toorak road one day, and ended up next to an older
orange Porsche 911 at a set of pedestrian lights.

Lights go green, and it's on. (In lunchtime traffic, what the hell were we
    thinking.)

I did not 'beat' him, but was with him the entire way through to the top end
    of first gear,
at which point his motor started making very unhappy noises.

I coasted past, and went back to work. I suspect he parked it, and called
    the tow truck.
