I did Latin for 2 years in school. At the time I didn't really see the point. However, I'm glad I did on reflection. Later in school, when studying biology for example, a rudimentary knowledge of latin helped understand the classification system. Same with A level chemistry. Throughout the rest of my life my vocabulary has been much better as a result and I can often work out the meaning of words new to me without looking them up. This is particularly helpful in my current milieu which is full of epistemological polyhistors and positivists with their pseudo- scientific narratives.
Perhaps not _always_, but certainly a lot: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-teachers-value-20100815,0,2695044.story
I queried her pronunciation and she said her teacher had told them it was OK like that. Are you suggesting that's NOT the teacher's fault?
I can second the Rosetta series. I've been using the Spanish course and found it very educational (& fun). however, the speech recognition has been a failure. i've tried separate mics but now i'm beggining to think my netbook is too slow. i'll try it on my PC next if you rate it. ___________. I reckon you only have one side of the story. And thick students getting the wrong end of the stick and then saying "But that's what the teacher told us" is pretty much a cliche.
You only need one instruction manual of whatever made in China to realize that zillions people are attuned to Western languages.
I was told I was dropping French after my mock 'O' level disaster (1) in 1975. (1) I decided not to bother with the oral exam because mine was scheduled for straight after dinner and I knew the examiner would smell cigarette smoke on me and drop me in the shit.
I'm me. No new posting name. Just someone who hasn't posted much before. Have posted *very* occasionally in the past, but God knows under what monicker. Couldn't teach at all. And couldn't control a class full of Nuns, either. No, probably before my time. Seem to remember a female music teacher that we all fancied, who in hindsight was a bit of a munter. And a female drama teacher who most certainly wasn't Both shit teachers though.
Champ - were we at school together at Elmbridge Primary in the late 60s, or did you attend a different school? -- Lozzo Versys 650 Tourer, CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
Fucking hell, mate. Don't feel too good about it, I'm world reknowned for having a shite memory. -- Lozzo Versys 650 Tourer, CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
I had Miss Lofthouse, and she alone was responsible for me failing French [1] Paul. [1] Not because she was rubbish, but because she was absolutely stunning [2] [2] Bloody poor show putting her in with a class of pimply 14 year olds ... :/
Ah, I was whooshed. As to your question, probably. They tend to go right over my head most of the time.
