  1. I never knew they existed, but for some reason Jobs.ac.uk thinks its
    within my field of interest...

Chris N Deuchar emerged from their own little world to say
seems reasonable to me: every industrial process needs specialists. I'd
like to think that the person designing my protective gear knows something
about the nature of the raw materials as well as aesthetics.

Perhaps you came up when they searched for "Lecturer in Leather"?

  4. Respected around the world for their courses. No matter where I am
working, in motorcycle clothing factories around the world, the moment
I mention that I am from Northampton, someone pops up from out of the
woodwork who has either studied at the University, or knows someone
    else who has.

Its relevance within the UK is possibly diminished because of the large
number of tanneries that have closed down here (many of them developed
    into housing estates).

Know of anyone wanting test subjects for a PhD thesis on "The
hallucinogenic effects of chemicals used in the leather processing
    industry"?

gomez emerged from their own little world to say
Do they still use piss to fix the dye?

"Dyeing auxiliaries" is used as a catch all, so maybe.

You might want to review that list before volunteering :)
