I suppose modern bikes won't be afflicted with this problem but, the
analogue clocks on my Blackbird were illuminated by a very feeble
light source. Made me think at least one of the bulbs must be duff. So
last weekend I rolled the sleeves up and removed about 18 pieces of
fairing before eventually laying my instruments across the table.

The internals were found to be clean and dissapointingly all the bulbs
were ok too? Purchased 4 blue led's to replace em and then decided to
get another 4 red led's just to see which would look best.

The red one's proved to be a bit too dim, but the blue one's really do
work a treat and now all I want to do is sit in my garage every night
with the big light out. def a job worth doing

Sufficiently bright red LEDs would be better for night vision if you
ride at night. The blue ones are rather too bright for me.
