I came across an old vertical 'fore and aft' type front number plate in one
of the boxes in the garage and thought about using it on the bantam. I
vaguely remember something about them being withdrawn from use in the 70s
but are the actually illegal? I have seen a few of them about recently.

    from the DVLA website

    m#motorcycles

    "..MOTORCYCLES AND TRICYCLES

Motorcycles and tricycles registered after 1.9.2001 must only display a
number plate at the rear of the vehicle.
Motorcycles and tricycles registered before 1.9.2001 can display a number
plate at the front but are not required to.."

I don't think they are illegal. I don't think the 1975 legisalation banned
them - just said they were no longer compulsory.
