Dunno, but this one's a bit odd as well:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300147515555

So you pay for a bike which the owner is then going to carry on racing
until the end of the season? The engine will be rebuilt he says, but
what if he totals it at Knicker Brook?

    Yes, saw that as well.

I've initiated communications; we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Except that the clocks are a sealed unit so you can't buy
replacement glass (especially at £80) and they're also
key/clocks/ecu coded, so you'd better be sitting down when
you phone Ducati to ask how much a new set of clocks will
cost, as it's the thick end of a grand.

If I was in the market, I'd bid on it and if I won the auction, I'd go to
pick it up, but I wouldn't drop a penny down before I'd seen it and possibly
    test ridden it.

It seems a trifle cheap at it's current 1000 quid, but the last bargain
    hasn't been had yet.

Maybe my reading has gone completely to shit, but I can't find anything that
says he's going to carry on racing it. He does say it'll be at Oulton Park
for viewing purposes, but **** all about racing it there.

The engine will be rebuilt he says, but
Read the ad again and convince me it's me who can't read.

Doesn't say he won't be (perhaps somewhere else) either.

Well I didn't say I'd be committing sideways tonight, but if I was found
hanging from the rafter in the morning, it'd come as a bit of surprise to a
    few people.

I think it's fairer to assume that he'll be not be racing it unless he
    actually says so.

Well, yes; he says he'll accept cash, so I'd be able to inspect the bike
(and, obviously, the documentation) before handing anything over.
It's still got ~9 days to go, it'll be a lot higher than that before it
    finishes.

I'd like to make it quite clear that *I* won't be racing there at any
time in the near future, and neither will my wife.

Probably. Perhaps Ebay brings out my suspicious nature too much.
Though I would have thought it better to arrange the auction so as to
allow people to view it at Oulton before bidding, not afterwards.

I am sure a phone call would sort it all out, and also put prospective
purchasers' minds at rest about paying for something so far in advance
of taking delivery (i.e. it is going to get a motor rebuild first).
Perhaps the winning bidder won't be required to pay up until after then.

I've never been seriously bitten on eBay, so I'm less inclined to think the
    worst I suppose.
I don't think it makes any diff. If the winning bidder doesn't like what he
sees at Oulton, he has the option to leave his cash in his pocket.
That would be the deal killer for me.

I don't think it's a scam and if it's what you want, go for it.
Certainly, but if there's a few more people think it's a possible dodgy
deal, there could still be a bargain going begging.
