Lemming Corner

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Mar 3, 2004.

  1. Long ago, there was a ride up a certain road out of Sydney. And three
people followed each other almost round a corner, that as a result was
    nicknamed Lemming Corner.

There's a possibility we can get that corner officially named. As on
the map and signs and all.

Who were the original 3? And who else will put their hand up at
    crashing there?

After reading that link that Iain posted -

I never crashed there, but I organised "the ride". The original ride
    report is at http://makeashorterlink.com/?H25252B97 .

I think the name might've been my invention, too...the earliest
reference I can find is at http://makeashorterlink.com/?P28262B97
(which also identifies one of the Lemmings as Glenn Lowth, on the
Ducati: the other bikes were a CBR600 and either a VFR400 or RVF400).

  9. Gawd, there's some names from ausmoto's past.

I take it Eric ended up moving to Norway or Sweden or wherever ...

    Cheers

Yes, Google told me you were the first one talking about a sign.

I think what will happen is that we need a few bods to write to the
naming commission, when I have the full story I'll post it here.

  11. I'd swear it went down to a 15kph for a while too, but I'm pretty sure
it said 25 last time I went through...

    being surprised by that one...

    Zeebe,

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting it official, as the local
council/trourism people (Cessnock ?) also call it 'Lemming Corner'.
The is a brochure doing the rounds of the local Newcastle bike shops
(IIRC Motorcycling in Wine Country or some such) that warns about it
    as well.

I expect they have disclaimers in the Local Government Act for things like
this. Not much different to putting up a road sign saying "Slippery When
    Wet".

Then they just put up a sign that says, "Lemming Corner. Mind the armco".
