  1. I got red arms from avoiding the freeway while riding today. Anyone who
doesn't wear a leather jacket and gloves is a fuckin' idiot!

I had a nice little tan after the GP.. didn't realize it till I came to
Bendigo. My face was significantly darker compared to the region around my
    eyes where my sunnies were...

....and as for the idiots in white overalls that forget to clip the
sleeves down before they leave the pub! ;-)

Of course not, they're all hairy. How come we never see hairy bike
    leathers?

    Yeah! :-|

After we headed home, Big Phill was scampering down the road, I was
following, and a car was behind us.

I didn't want to stop to clip the sleeves, but, as I found out, without
cruise control, doing up the sleeves, while rolling along, is
_extremely_ difficult. I wisnay going to stop 'cause the car would then
have passed me, and, as everyone knows, it's really difficult to pass a
car if you are riding a 250. (Sorta like climbing hills!) ;-)

    That's correct.

  16. I did similar last Christmas. Was a steeking hot day and brother and I
went for a blat up to Cooyer. I decided to not wear a jacket - excuse
being that the heat stroke would be more hazardous than the small
probability of coming off the bike without a jacket (that was before the
    Hall's Gap incident, obviously).

I felt cooler for the first 5-10 minutes, but then the hot sun and wind
on my bare arms actually felt hotter (or at least less comfortable) than
I'd expected to feel if wearing a jacket.

Sunburn plus windburn now equals jacket for long rides - although I've
just inherited Carol's DryMesh. :) I love it.

  17. I went for a ride up Bells to Mt Victoria for lunch a few years back, on
the way home I discovered I was actually cooler with the black leather
jacket zipped up and the visor closed... Boky's VFR's ambient air temp
gauge _was_ reading 42C at the time...

best alternative I've found isn't jackets - most of which seem to have
sweaty linings - but a long sleeved light coloured cotton shirt.

The light colour is cooler, the natural fabric isn't sweaty.

Crazy Cam's white cotton overalls are a similar idea. when he rememebrs
    to do 'em up.

  20. Yep. The bloody nylon liner sees me wet in next to no time.

I've been toying with wearing a bicycling jersey under the jacket -
wicks the sweat away from your skin and all - and even if no jacket, at
least it would still protect from sun and wind burn.
