  1. Got this link from a Harley NG I frequent

It is an advertisement for a Bank but I found it quite inspirational none
    the less

    http://www.abc.net.au/austory/ was good tonight.

Introduced by Wayne Gardiner, former motorcycle world champion

This week's program charts the adventures of an octogenarian motor bike rider
who's suddenly become the centre of a social networking phenomenon.

When Doug Sunderland succumbed to the blues after losing his wife and being
diagnosed with cancer, his GP told him to 'get back on his bike'.

He did... and it 'saved his life', so much so, that he decided to ride around
Australia solo, surviving on tinned food and sleeping by the road.

Then, unexpectedly, the 85 year old was befriended by young bike rider Kris
Growcott who started a Facebook page to rally support for the veteran.

Suddenly fans were joining up in their hundreds and, for Doug Sunderland,
everything changed in the most delightful way...

Yah I bought a T-Shirt a while back from the Facebook link.

I can only hope I've still got half of Doug's guts when I'm his age (if
    I ever reach that age!)

Is Kris the guy who was selling tshirts to raise money, giving 30% of
the profits to the old bloke and keeping 70% for himself? Rallying
    support all right... !

So a business has to donate all of their profit from a particular profit
line to a cause or they aren't doing anything worthwhile?

    I respectfully disagree...

Well.. if the particular profit line is solely aimed at supporting a
particular cause, then, yes, why not. If not 100% then at least a
significant percentage. He was specifically printing tshirts and
selling them under the premise of raising money for the old bloke in
addition to any other line of business he had going on.

  10. And I'm sure a lot of money was raised for the "Old Bloke"

Wake up Nev this is how charity works in today's world.
Ever brought one of those pencils for the Blind from a footpath vendor?
The vast bulk of the profit goes to the seller yet since instigating the
scheme the Blind Society has gotten much more cash than ever previously
    raised by donations.

You may think it deceitful but in the end it works. People generally aren't
prepared to work for shit even if it's for a worthwhile cause. In this case
the end probably justifies the means. And whose to say the "Old Bloke"
wasn't aware of the set up anyhow

It well may have been, and twice as much money was raised by the young
    bloke for himself.

Twice as much gross, less the cost of the shirts, less the cost of the
designs, less the cost of wages, less the cost of admin, less the cost
of group tax, less the cost of GST, less the cost of payroll tax and
probably other things I haven't thought of.

That's the definition for net profit not gross profit, it needs to be
made clear which is being discussed at any time.

No it doesn't, you're just looking for excuses for the guy which are
probably unwarranted. But just for simplification, the website says
profit so we'll just run with the (total income - total outgoings =
    profit) definition as above.

He is doing all right for himself with 70% of the profits, no doubt
    about that ;)
