Loft insulation

    The house is about to go on the market[1] so I thought I
    would top up the loft insulation in readiness for the
    energy efficiency thingumibob.

    Focus (and probably most other DIY sheds) provided 'Space
    Blanket' - encapsulated in foil-backed casing,
    £11-something a roll, buy one get 3 free, plus another £4
    off govmint discount - but you have to ask.

    12 rolls - 30-odd quid, and the loft is now noticeably a
    lot colder.

    As a result, any water pipes will need extra insulation as well, as I
    found out in the last cold spell.

    Also check your loft ventilation is up to spec as well. You may find the
    colder loft may lead to more condensation.
