The lights are dim, half the appliances in the house don't have enough
juice to run, even the igniter button on the hob isn't working.

    Low mains voltage?

I'm off to dig out some candles...

Meanwhile in the north, we are enjoying full 50hz 240vAC :)

Glad to see that 'blitz spirit' is still alive....

We've had several power cuts here - all tracked back to a ring on the
    hob.

The PVR and TV are still working, so I can watch today's racing, and one
of my broadband routers is OK (the Netgear can't cope with the low
voltage) so I can still dick about on the net.

On the downside, the pumps in the fish tanks are dying and the steak &
kidney pudding I put in the microwave isn't getting any warmer.

    Ho hum...

Just gave EDF a buzz, there's something not right in the area.

All you'll get is some French geezer looking at his lights and telling
you he can't see any problem from where he's sitting.

You've not been doing anything to upset the Electric Gods, have you?

Like having different wattage lightbulbs on at the same time, or
leaving the light on with the door open?

Best check with V to be extra sure.

    no problems in real London.

though, as I see you're dealing with EDF, "good luck with that".

Maybe they had some sheep to burn and were too busy to make any
