    Nun'ed. Near Pekkum.

No self-respecting Sarf Londener would pronounce the aitch.

I did hear recently that the language spoked half a mile north east of

has been all but wiped out in the last 50 years by an overwhelming
    outflux of the locals.

Not any longer I am afraid, they all left in the Great Diaspora of '83.
One got left behind though, a pitiful chap with no teeth and a gammy

eventually he got seduced by the dark side and moved to Woolwich. Only
his spirit remains to be seen on a full moon hopping toothlessly up the
Bethnal Green Road just before midnight.

And wasn't there a fair bit of stating the fucking obvious in there? One
thing did strike me as suspect though, and tht was this:-

"The majority of young people of school age are of Bangladeshi origin and
this has had tremendous impact on the dialect spoken in the area"

Is that right, or is it just bollocks. I know there're a lot of Banladeshi's
darn theer, but *are* the majority of kids Asian?

Majority sounds unlikely. Largest minority is more than possible.

According to the 2001 census, 33.4% of LBTH population was of
    Bangladeshi origin.

    http://neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/dissemination/AreaProfile1.do?tab=2

LBTH is an odd animal, though. Sublime to the ridiculous in so many
criteria, often over a ridiculously short distance.

e.g. 37.4% of all dwellings are local authority owned, but in 031D,
    where I am, it's 5.6%.

In 023D, it's 54.6%. That's either end of Westferry Road. About a mile
apart. I could prolly find more extreme shifts next to each other, but

    a: it's late
    b: ICBA
    c: I can't see what it will show/prove.
d: my motives mught be misconstrued.

  19. My ol' Nan lived in Bow in the late 60's/early 70's and, as a nipper, I used
to go there for Christmas. I went back to have a look round the area a
couple of years ago to see if I remembered the place and all the "No ball
games" type signs were in Urdu or summat. The old baker's at the end of the
street is now a Hallal butcher's shop.

I considered knocking on the door of the house she used to live in, in Bruce
Road, to see if I could just have a look inside again but I value my life
    more than my curiosity.

    Never go back.

I think so. They are here in Brent.

I looked at the OFSTED report for the local primary school in whose
catchment area my house lies. 81% had English as 'an additional
language' ie little/no English at school entry.

The kids start school at 3 years old, so that by 7 they can perform in
their (English) STAT tests as well as the others.
