    Morgan,

There are ways to get there that minimize the I-10 travel. I rode from
Austin to Key West earlier this year, only riding I10 from Columbus to
Winnie (through Houston) and at Biloxi, MS, because of the US90 bridge
    outage.

A nice ride is to take the Winnie exit, go to Port Aurthur, then across
the Sabine pass and along the coast on LA 82, then to New Iberia. From
there, US 90 to New Orleans. If you want to miss the traffic and stop
signs, hop on I 310, to I 10, to I 610, then take US 90 east. Stay on
US90 to Biloxi, then hit I 10 again to bypass the downed bridge.

Depending on how much time you want to spend, you can ride to Dauphin
Island and take the Mobile Bay Ferry to Alabama, then ride the coast on
US 98 to US 19 to head south in Florida. There is a lot of traffic and
lights in Pensacola and Panama ZCity, though. Another alternative is to
stay on I10 across Mobile Bay and go south on FL 85 to FL20, and take
that to US 98 south of Tallahassee.

I reccomend using I-75 down the west coast of Florida unless you like
traffic lights, but take US41 across the Everglades rather than I75, and
stop and take an airboat ride.

    Enjoy the ride.

As we discussed at lunch, you are going in the middle of hurricane season. I
think one is brewing out there now. Take care and I am envious I am not
    going.

Not likely - way too many drunks and idiots for me.
I'll do a leisurely ride through the Hill Country instead.

I happen to like drunks and idiots on occasion. Can do a Hill Country ride
    anytime.
