I mis-read. Thought it *wasn't* very different from the 10yo....

How about Manx Spirit? I'm sure they used to market something that at
least looked a bit like the real thing.

There is that. OTOH the bloke on the telly said it was quite nice.

    Depends on the cost really.

  8. I can't say I've really enjoyed any of the young single malts that I've
tried, but that wouldn't stop me trying another, at someone elses
    expense.

<Aside to Pip> - did you ever open that bottle of Frysk Hynder? (I
won't be offended if you say no, or yes and you hated it).

The one with the horse's head on the top? Rather like a Mafia death
threat, I thought. Yes, and that was a young one, wasn't it? It wasn't
bad at all - a bit lightweight and sort of vegetal: fresh-cut grass,
that sort of thing. Not unpleasant, TYVM.

  11. ISWYM, although I hadn't thought of it that way. I guess knowing that
Frysk Hynder means 'Friesian Horse' clouded my creative thinking.
3 years. Certainly far from mature.
That was pretty much my take on it. It will be interesting to see how
    it develops with age.

I've just checked their website and they don't have an older one yet (I
would think they must have some 5+ y/o barrels now), my guess is they
are waiting for 10 years barrel time.

I notice they sell barrel-ettes but they're not cheap (per litre), and
if I have to take it home and age it myself, well, I'd be wanting a
    discount like.

There's the thing. The last bottle I had called itself 25y/o and was
just wonderful. Can't find one now, but in the course of searching,
I've discovered that good, old whisky has leapt in price since last time
I looked (about a year ago). Bugger me, but not only can you spend 500
quid on what was a (special occasion) quaffer for eighty or so, but my
old Ardbegs are now going for ~five times what I paid for 'em. I'm
seriously considering not opening the last two: they're like hen's
teeth, the 1978 and not getting any more common. Heirloom material.
