    That's your assumption.
Doing something recreationally is one thing, doing it professionally is
    something different.

So why do so many people leave so called "better jobs" to become lorry
    drivers?

    Vans and cars. Hardly comparable.

Because a 44 tonne artic handles the same as an Escort van doesn't it?

Nah, it can result in people getting KSI'd.

So what was the average motorway accident reckoned to cost again?

Just as an aside. Regarding motorway lighting and power stations.
Apparently it is claimed that there's no point turning off the lights
to save the environment because it's something to do with them using
the spare generating capacity and the costs/hassle involved in power
station slowdown/speedup or startup/shutdown? Any idea?

Well, I remember working on a gas plant in Egypt. It takes six months
to get the station up to full operating strength apparently. About the
same time to bring it down properly too. That's about all my knowledge
    on the subject.

I can produce excerpts from the Department for Transport working time
guidance notes that make you look like a total liar so why don't you
actually explain the hours you can work without trying to cloud things
    over a bit?

    3.1 Main Points
Workers may not exceed an average 48 hours working time a week over
the reference period, nor may they exceed 60 hours working time in a
single week (a week always starts at 00.00 on Monday morning).
Workers covered by the Regulations cannot opt-out from the average
    48-hour weekly limit.

The average weekly working time should be calculated over 17 weeks
(some methods allow 18 weeks). This can be extended to a maximum of 6
months (26 weeks) under a relevant agreement (see section 7.1 -
    "relevant agreements").

You've seen the council website for Selby then?

  11. LOL. I was waiting for that.

  12. Absolutely. I've told The Doctor that if disaster struck, that's exactly
    what I'd do.

  13. I happen to like driving big trucks. Great fun.

But driving a truck from one end of the country to the other, on cold
wet nights, and having to put up with stroppy transport managers,
awkward loads, and endless waits at supermarket RDCs, day-in, day-out,
would rather blunt that pleasure, I feel.

  14. My licence is active. It hasn't lapsed. I re-took the medical last
    summer to keep it so.

    Next?

It won't be anything to do with the actual power stations because the
generating companies agree to sell a set amount of electricity to the
grid and that's where their responsibility ends.

Obviously the amount they commit to varies according to the time of
the year and consumer demand but if they find they can't supply their
contracted amount then they have to buy off another supplier who'll
charge a significant amount more than the original supplier is going
    to be paid for it.

That's looks like the Working Time Directive, not Driver's Hours Regs.
    They're diferent.

I know they're different and I said in my earlier post where I lifted
    them from.

I also said I could make him look a total liar and that he should
clarify his post about working an 84 hour week.
