Which won't be accepted as proof of entitlement.

  2. 7.5T rigid afair? Same on mine - issued yonks back. Be interesting to
find out what the gendarmerie would make of it. I suppose it'd be
perfectly legal to take a UK lorry into France on that licence, but I
don't know if you'd be able to (allowed to) drive a French lorry in
    France on it.

I would, if I could find a hire place that'll let me hire a lorry of that
    weight.

  4. Off the top of my head, if you passed your car test in (I think) 1998,
you have a 7.5-tonne entitlement. After that date (if not 1998, it's
close to that), then 3.5 tonnes.

    Oh, soddit.

    <fx: googles>

    Ah, 1 January 1997, not 1998.

Done to bring the UK in line with Europe, as ever.

If you have the 7.5-tonne entitlement on your licence, then in theory
you ought to be able to hire a 7.5-tonner in France (or anywhere). In
practice, I bet the French make it more difficult than it ought to be.

Sixt allows you to take hired 7.5-tonners over the Channel from the UK,
so I can't see them having that right and refusing to hire you a
7.5-tonner from one of their Continental depots.

Bah. So that would be one explanation as to why the DVLA lost my 7.5t
entitlement (and of course wouldn't reinstate it, but then I was naive
    back then).

Of course the other one would be the standard DVLA explanation.

Nice one. It'd be interesting to see what the score is if I get stopped
by plod for an offence and am required to change my licence for a frog one.
Well that depends. If I go to a standard hire place, they just won't have
    any 7.5 tonners.
Nice to know for future reference. :)

Its a thred of evidence, and makes sure you have a note , and is bloody
useful at border crossings and police check points.
