This letter was published in today's paper: It's a typical, if inaccurate, defense of loud pipes. What's wrong with paying attention to traffic on the road? After over 30 years of experience, I can almost read other drivers' minds and know what they're going to do before they do! http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/op-ed/letters/20060725-9999-lz1e25lets.html "Regarding recent letters on noise pollution from motorcycles: First of all, loud exhaust from motorcycles has become a necessity in California. I have been riding motorcycles for five years and cannot count the number of times I have almost been run over by somebody paying more attention to their cell-phone conversations than using a blinker, or even looking before they swerve to the next lane. Since I put a more noticeable exhaust on my bike, now people hear me approach them over those ever-important cell-phone conversations and loud music. Loud pipes save lives in California. People die all the time on motorcycles due to careless drivers. If it takes two seconds for me to pass them, that's a whopping two seconds of noise..." -- -- Spidergraham Chaplain, ARSCC "Comparing Scientology to a motorcycle gang is a gross, unpardonable insult to bikers everywhere. Leaf blowers. Ptui! The damn things stink and make noise. If I were to hire people to take care of my yard, I'd specify that they had to use some low-tech alternative to leaf blowers. Maybe they can attach some bristles to a stick or something and pass that over the sidewalk instead. It will make less noise, not stink as bad, and probably be healthier for the ones doing the work. Will it take more time? No.
Yeah...and they don't really DO anything except move the problem somewhere else! -- -- Spidergraham Chaplain, ARSCC "Comparing Scientology to a motorcycle gang is a gross, unpardonable insult to bikers everywhere.
