    Hey all
Own a new HD road king classic and the stock pipes suck. What do other HD
riders use that sound great but dont cross the legal limit as I dont need
the legal shit that goes with changing them to pass the EPA test. I cant
believe how quiet the stock pipes are so any suggestions from other users
    would be appreciated...

  3. What ever you do, DON'T ride that bike until you get the louder pipes
on. Everyone knows that loud pipes save lives, which means you will be
putting your life at unnecessary risk by riding it with stock pipes.

I just don't know how dealers get away with selling like that. Somebody
should take out a class action against them.

I agree...I cant believe i bought a new harley that sounds like a singer
sewing machine. The bike is great in all ways but the sound is just soo not
    HD.

  9. I've got the "Singing Budgie TM" pipes on my 08 Electra Glide. They're
loud but not obtensivly so, they are probably technically illegal though. I
doubt that anything much louder than the whispering stock pipes would be
legal. Just listen to all new bikes these days Jappa's, Ducatis, Harleys
    they're all shhhhhhh qiiet.
But in saying that I haven't had any drams with the mob who protect us from
ourselves yet, touch wood. Great bike I agree, plenty powerfull enough,
great brakes by any standard on the Brembo equiped 08 models, classic looks
BUT average ground clearance on the LH side and poor- average high speed(
    140K +) handeling IMHO.
    Happy hogging

Keep the stock pipes in the shed and when ya get busted (I would be
surprised) put em back on for the inspection then rip them of again, my
stock ST2 pipes are in the shed but have not had any hassles at all, touch
    wood.

Does the Road King Classic not come with a radio and CD player?

If it does, you could get a CD of loud noisy motorcycle sounds and play
    that really really loud.

If the EPA pick on you you only have to turn down the volume.

Staintune make a set of slipons that are a happy medium - looking at a
    grand.

Thats just the start though. Once you fit the mufflers the bike will cackle
back on the overrun until you do something about the mixture - another
    grand.

    goodluck

$1k?! A hacksaw only costs $5, just cut the mufflers off and ride at
night so you can watch the pretty flames spitting out of the headers.

Should be loud enough for you, too.

    That's an urban legend paul...
HD's don't actually go fast enough to deflect the tassles.

Microphone on each pipe, and another on the valve cover?

You know that isn't as silly as it sounds......

There isn't any law stopping you putting on microphones, a wee
    amplifier, and some speakers.

They'd probably cost less than after market pipes, be easier to fit
(well, on some bikes) and would have an on/off switch.

I like it. There could be a quid in it, too! :)

Isn't there some kind of law (in some states maybe) that after you've
been issued with an EPA notice x number of times and passed they assume
that you're doing just the ol' pipe switcharoo trick and then make your
vehicle unregisterable? .. or did I just dream that.

Dunno Nev. If there isn't, there probably should be.

Still think the funniest was the bloke with the Ducati 748SPS.

Got pinged for the noisy Termi's, goes home, fits the standard pipes,
goes to EPA and still failed. :)
