I will bet you that the conversion costs now go up

  2. Some time ago ABC TV featured a postie bike that a local scientist had
    converted to LPG.
    IIRC,power was down about 30% (like a CT110 needs _less_ power...),and the
gas tank replaced the pizza box on the rear rack.
Even the works CT can suck up $6.50 in petrol when nearly empty, but you'd
want to be doing a helluva lotta kays to justify the conversion...

in a dual fuel setup its a 10-20% increase in fuel usage on LPG
and a slight loss in power

if its straight gas then its about 5% increase in fuel consumption and
bugger all loss of power and in some cases an increase in power once tuned
    for
    straight gas

Hoping not to need that any time soon. The 2,4L Mitsubishi engine was
designed to be used with LPG as well as petrol, and this one has an
    after-market upper-cylinder lubrication system added.

But yes, I suspect it might be cheaper on the van than the bike.

Oh and yeah, my bad. When I wrote "running costs" I should have written
    "fuel costs per 100 Km".

Yeah this is the biggest downside to LPG conversion. Car never runs
quite right again. The tuning is always a compromise.

LPG will have zero excise for the next 5 years.

At that point, excise is phased in, up to 9 years from now, at which
point LPG will still be a THIRD of the current excise on petrol (38
    cpl) ...

    http://www.ausindustry.gov.au/library/LPG_FAQs_Clean20060814041736.pdf

LPG is currently excise free but it will become subject to excise in
the future. No excise will be applied to LPG until 1 July 2011. The
full rate of excise to apply to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) used in
vehicles will be 12.5 cents per litre. This rate will apply from 1
July 2015. The planned excise rates for LPG are as follows:

    1 July 2011 2.5 cpl
    1 July 2012 5.0 cpl
    1 July 2013 7.5 cpl
    1 July 2014 10.0 cpl
    1 July 2015 12.5 cpl

Yeah, it's a "flash lube" system. It might be snake oil, but it's
already there, and the oil doesn't cost much.

wrong . a well tuned lpg only car performs better , uses slightly more
fuel and has more torque and horsepower ...
There are numerous high horsepower lpg cars out there doing at 1/2 the
    cost
Ive owned a number of lpg only vehicles with excellent performance
indistinguishable from petrol with great savings in running costs and
in the case of the current and past normally run over the 500k before
needing remedial work ( often more)

I was talking about duel fuel... hence the need to compromise when
tuning the engine. I apologise for not stating that explicitly and
leading you to believe that there was some sort of tuning compromise
required when tuning an LPG only vehicle. :)

  14. How do they force taxpayers to pay for health insurance?
I'm a taxpayer, I insure nothing, Not car Not bikes Not home Not contents
    Not income Not health
I do pay the third party that comes with rego and I also pay public
liability however both of these I'm compelled to pay by law.
    But not Health
I think insurance is a gamble as much as no insurance is a gamble, in the
past 30 or so years my gambling has paid off hansomly, I have no debts
whatsoever own my house Van, Car and several lovely motorcycles, as well as
other invesments, much of this has been funded through insurance preimums
going into my pocket and not big buisness.
If you think your being ripped off by health insurance Co's why bend over
    and take it?
In a free country you still have a choice.

  15. I know several people on a low income who believe it's uneconomical to pay
    for health insurance
While I do pay extra tax for choosing not to pay I think it's a value
    judgement and not compulsion

I was mearly trying to point out that I, and others I know, felt no
compulsion to take out health insurance, contary to your assumption

What the...? A factual, on-topic reply to one of my posts, without so
much as a *hint* of a booth joke...?!

Who are you, and what have you done with the REAL Pat?!

For what it's worth, I reckon if he'd boosted the fairly low
compression ratio to about 11:1 it wouldn't have lost any power. It'd
be embarassing to break your leg from a backfire via the kickstart on a
    110 though!

With a little more effort the lpg in a dualy will perform , let the
petrol side rot... take out the petrol system and save 50kg of weight..
