Phew. Managed to go to GLF yesterday and the SpeedySpic only sold me
what I was after. Not one item more, although I might come back :).

Anyway, I appear to be properly kitted out for a Pan rider now -
strange Lurch boots[1], big waterproof winter trousers etc...

[1] No, not Altbergs. Wheatley - similar kind of boots, pretty well
made and they even adjusted the fit on mine so I'm finally enjoying
the first pair of bike boots that fit *properly*.

Aha. I was sure I'd ridden past on a Sunday and seen it closed.

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Hog
The sign on the door says open "selected Sundays", or something similar.

"Oh shit, that pikey **** Hog's riding by, turn the lights off quick".

Read the date and the time of posting, Timo said 'yesterday' on Sunday
11th, which means he visited GLF on Saturday 10th.

I was of course reading it on the 12th. The cap's fitting.

That I can't comment on, not having owned Altbergs before. However I
was extremely impressed with their attitude at the Stafford show -
they even adjusted the boot fit to suit my needs for the cost of
postage only. Plus, they were very quick to deliver - said it'll take
two weeks, took less than one.
I really like mine, I must say.

Andy Wegg was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
That'll be short then - when I phoned them up earlier this year to
enquire about motorcycle boots they were talking *months*.

So might be worth investigating Wheatleys stand at Ally-Pally then?

What's wrong with buying proper waterproof bike boots, like a pair of
Daytonas. I really can't see why people bother with pikey kit when there
are perfectly good bike-specific clothing and footwear manufacturers out
    there with reasonably priced products.

So Wheatleys don't make bike boots, is that it? How much are a pair of
Daytonas by the way? Furrymuff, Matt Horn swears by them, from
experience... Do you have, out of interest, like, an official list
of "Do not buy coz its pikey" list? Not that I personally have any
    problem with any pikey-types...

    .......... :)

Right, I have a pair of Altberg Hogg's and a pair of Daytona GTX's. They are
both excellent, strong and totally waterproof. The Hoggs are warmer though.
If I am riding the BMW I wear the Hoggs as they are so comfortable and great
for walking around town or a country stroll. If I am riding the Gixxer or
summat the Hoggs are too bulky and I wear the GTX's, ditto for serious
    hooning or track time.

    Starting from the top:

    Summer kit

Uvex Wing RS helmet, size XS (black)
EDZ summer weight neck tube (black)
MJK made to measure 2-piece sport/touring leathers (black again)
Hein Gericke PSX2[1] waterproof sports boots (black)
    Held 'Champ' gloves (black)

    Winter kit

Uvex Wing RS helmet, size S so I can get a balaclava in (black)
    EDZ winter weight balaclava (black)
Hein Gericke Voyager 3 waterproof Cordura jacket (black again)
Hein Gericke waterproof Cordura trousers [2] (black)
Daytona Roadstar GTX waterproof boots (black)[3]
Hein Gericke 3 finger Pathan lobster gloves (black)[4]

I also have some Knox Cold-Killer inner gloves that I wear on colder
summer days inside my Held gloves. For longer journeys in winter I wear
Outlast walking socks. I deliberately asked Beelzebub to buy the
Daytonas a size too big so I could fit a pair of Nike foam trainer
insoles in, which I remove when I wear the Outlast socks. The Nike
insoles make them comfier for walking about too.

I've built this kit up over time, after countless hours of poring over
bike kit in the shops I visited during the course of work etc, and by
listening to other people's recommendations and tales of woe. Most of it
is on the top end of 'value for money' kit. You don't have to spend an
absolute fortune to get kitted properly, my biggest indulgence was my
M2M leathers, but when you're my size you don't get much choice off the
    peg.

Having 2 helmets may seem a touch excessive, but I ride all year round
and a helmet that fits me tight in summer is way too tight with a
balaclava on underneath in winter. Besides, I bought one helmet for 99
quid rather than the 299 that they normally retail for, and the other
was given to me as a birthday prezzie by Beelzebub. Even if I had bought
that one myself, I'd still only have paid 200 quid for 600s worth of
lids. I don't consider 200 quid to be alot of money for a decent lid,
let alone two of them. It pays to shop around.

[1] Not available any more, but replacement model are just as good.
[2] Can't remember the name, but they have a zip-off salopette top part.
[3] Bought for xmas by Beelzebub, M+P were doing them at 99 quid.
    [4] I like black :)

    ROFL
I feels better about my clothing collection now.
I've never found the need for a bally though, <cough> well not on a bike at
least. Particularly so with Arai helmets as the padding is so plush.
