Luggage for a Triple

OK, it's like this. I'd *like* a different bike for the commute. In
practice it's unlikely to happen right now, not least because of time.
So my thoughts turn to luggage for the carrying of assorted office type
bits, not least my Mac book. My old and valued Krug 'sack does the
business, but getting in and out and making sure everything is water
tight is a bit of a PITA.

So, panniers? If so what? Tank bag? (less appealing but will be considered)

    Givi monorack and top-box.

Looks shite, but does the job.

    Catman says...
I looked at how to carry stuff on my 04 Daytona, which is essentially
the same rear bosywork as the 03 Speed Triple, and decided to stick with
the Suzuki Bandit with rack and Baglux option.

Fitting any luggage to the Triumph is PITA cos there's virtually ****
all to strap it down to properly. I have used a Baglux bag on the tank,
but just as it did with the Gixer, the wind tries to tear my helmet off
and wrenches my neck back at anything over 80. So I load the Bandit up
instead cos ICGAF if it gets scratched.

    Tailpack?

    Or here's an unconventional suggestion...

Buy a new rear seat pad, remove the padding, and bolt a givi top plate
    onto it.

Instant swappable pillion seat or luggage option, without unsightly
    racks.

New one on me. I currently have no DNS, so JFGI is not an option
Oooh, now it just so happens that I have a spare pillion seat cos my
bike is the 'Limited Edition' with the black frame, extra plastics and
the pillion replacement. That's a very interesting thought.

  12. Err not really. Catman is a big strong chap and would present quite a
challenge to someone with kindling and a match.

  15. I have used throwovers with some success - I think they are Givis but
they are buried right now - the straps fit neatly under and in front of
the pillion seat, but they wouldn't take a laptop. If I had to carry
such a thing I would put it in a backpack specifically designed for it
and either wear that or bungee it to the pillion seat on a longer run.
I don't know how big heavy and resilient a Mac book is but I wouldn't
like to think of a delicate flat thing trying to conform to the curve
    of the Triumph tank.

Get a blackberry, a portable hard drive and "hotdesk".

Adie always changed the seat hump for the pillion pad then used a
tailpack and added panniers if more space was needed. It was certainly
easier to tie luggage down on than a lot of Jap sports bikes as long
as you don't expect to get away with using shite old bungy straps.

I don't think he's tried very hard and it'd be worth remembering that
Wik took a fully loaded Speed Triple to Italy a few years ago when we
did a UKRM trip to Mugello.

There's **** all to tie down to at the back of the bike, I'm toying with
the idea of making some bungee hooks to fit somewhere to the back of the
    pillion seat.

The pillion seat should have fold-out hooks, well mine does. Before I
got the Tiger I used to use a pair of throw-overs with one of the belts
running under the pillion, thus held in place by the locking mechanism
    as well as the passenger.

Apart from the hooks under the seat, the rear footrests and the
    indicators?
