... which are brutally expensive to run as a track car compared to, say,
an M3. The additional weight really doesn't help, and the later 3.8
engine (if we're talking E34 here) doesn't like sustained high revs
much. And you really don't want to find out how much an M engine costs
to rebuild.

Well you highlight a decent principal, that fun track day cars should be a
simple and free of electronics as possible.

There was a particular class of Oirish idiot came up from the Free State to
Kirkiston with the likes of a Fiat Uno. They had a whale of a time and took
home scrap fit for crushing.
