    Paging the other Macisti.

Overnight, while in sleep mode, and Gawd knows how, My G4 decided to
reset my Internet control panel to the zero/default setting, wiping
out my German Server name and password, along with all headers,
    footers, sig and so on.

The Mac indexes itself after midnight (something it does, and I dunno
why) but not normally if it's sleeping. It was still doing it when I
woke it up, which puzzled me, and as it had two hours of indexing
still to run I clicked the "stop" button. And then couldn't run
MacSoup, so I checked the control panel and found out the above.

    Weird.

Luckily I still had the details of the German server and I knew my
password, but I can't log on because it's telling the authentication
isn't right. Grrr..... So I've emailed the Goimans in the hope of
getting a new password, in case that's the prob.

Other MacSoup users - the only place where you enter the news server
details is in the control panel, right? If I can't get the Goiman
Server to work I'll have to switch to news.dsl.pipex.com but I dunno
if I need to open a new settings file for that.

I'd be very grateful if anyone witha clue could email me
    (chateau.murray(at)dsl.pipex.com or at work on
neil.murray(at)informa.com). Yeah, I know, post here, read here, only
I can't bloody read here atm....

Are you still on OS 9? I think its something to do with Sherlock and can
be turned off. I don't see it anywhere in OS X tho.

  3. Very. I've never heard of this. Try posting to uk.comp.sys.mac where
there are some seriously knowledgable people who may be able to assist.
Tell them what OS you are running etc etc. Hope you get it sorted.
