3kmh over, speeding? ...I think not
Its -10% tolerance on the speedo so at a given speed limit in the
worst case you would be at the limit, and the best case 10% under it.
In most modern cars or bikes you will be closer to 10% under it...

I think the 3kph tolerance is BS, a $50 fine and no demerit points
would be fine...and then at 6kph hit with 3 points and 150 or what
    ever it is.

Brightly coloured cameras have a good effect in the euro countrys that
have tried them, but there they are interested in saftey (re: real
driver training, strict vehicle inspection regimes...etc) where as
    here its $$$.

Sigh, how times change... when I was a pup, the government *always*
listened to the Nats (and generally did what they were told)... Those were

NO NO NO speed camera's need to be totally outlawed...

They really do nothing to save lives.

    Think about these few reasons.

Every day in my local paper there is an article in the letters to the editor
about speed cameras, and almost everytime the article is against them. Sure
every now and then there is a do gooder praising them, but if thats the
case, then majority rules doesnt it. And we as motorists pay for the roads
through our registration and other taxes, surely we should have a say in
    road safety measures.

When a car speed's past a speed camera and kills someone at the next
intersection because they werent aware of the speed camera and couldnt slow
down in time for a red light, how has that speed camera saved a life??? On
the other hand however if the speed camera was replaced by a lasergun
operator, chances are the speeding motorist would have been pulled over long
before he/she managed to kill someone and this would give the police officer
a chance to chat to the motorist about the dangers of speeding, and possibly
enforce a Advanced drivers course as part of the penalty...

Why are there so many speed cameras on our roads nowadays, because its the
most easily measureable crime activity on our roads, which therefore makes
it very easy for the government to raise money whilst doing very little.

How often do we see basic random car inspection stations set up by the
police on our roads, for me its NEVER... I'm sure this form of operation
would cost far less then setting up a speed camera, which from what I've
    heard costs approximately $100,000 each.

How many obvious defectable cars do we see on our roads every day. - Many!

How many people drive their cars at night time with no lights on or just
parker lights on? Many!. Cant the police set up unmarked cars to catch the
    people driving without lights on???

Has anyone ever sat and watched the operation of a speed camera on the side
of the road? I have and the number of cars that slow down whilst driving
past a speed camera and then go back to their "preffered" speed after
    passing it is astounding...

Why has there been a dramatic increase in the number of speed cameras on our
roads over the last couple of years and, all of a sudden the speed limits
have been reduced??? No need to state the obvious there...

Why is there so many varying speed limits on our roads now? Ive actually
read that it is the intention of the government to implement more varying
speed limit roads? Now that is beyond a joke, and could be considered as
    forced revenue raising.

Why has there been a sudden change in speed camera camouflaging? People are
getting used of where speed cameras are located and revenue is dropping -
the government needs new revenue raising tactics.

Has anyone ever sat and watched the operation of a speed camera on the side
of the road? I have and the number of cars that slow down whilst driving
past a speed camera and then go back to their "preffered" speed after
    passing it is astounding...

I'm sorry for nagging on but there is just far too much evidance to prove
that speed cameras are purely for revenue raising tactics, to suggest
otherwise. Get rid of the speed cameras and replace them with laser gun
    operators

I have to agree with what Jeremy has to say. I visual presents has more
    effect that any speed camera.
I recon one thing that would make things better would be forced
Rider/Driver training if your caught doing an illegal act on the Rd, Couple
this with a lesser fine, And I'd be happy to do it if it makes me a better
rider/driver & more aware. They're now doing it in some countys in the UK.
    My 4cents.
