Right, it's done 40-odd thousand miles, many of them without the
    benefit of a service.

Every one in a while I've parked it on my drive whilst I've fought a
barrel of oil to the death. As part of that process some new oil may
    have fallen into it accidentally.

It got dropped at Croft just over a year ago which kind of did for the
bodywork. Most of the front end plastic is now held on with cable
ties, the nose-cone is a cheap aftermarket unpainted one and the side
panel I got off eBay and some **** has tried to paint it using Halford
touch-up paint for a Bond Bug and it's cracked ... and held on with
    cable ties as well.

Following the smash something more substantial at the front end is
twisted, given that my LHS brake calliper fits my bike fine, but
doesn't fit Eddie's 9R. Whatever is twisted doesn't seem to have
upset the ride or handling too much.

It's been through 6 winters and is looking more than a little
scruffy. It's also still on the original rear shock, so that much may
not have much left to give (although it feels OK to me).

ATM it isn't pulling well at the top end, but it's also still on the
original air filter, which hasn't been cleaned for a couple of years.

New chain and sprockets are also needed and the brake master cylinder
could do with a rebuild kit.

As the basis for a track bike it would be fine.

    £400 to anybody here.

I'd go along with this, but knowing he can't ride a rocking horse
without falling off I'd say the Daytona 955i is the safer bet. It's
the perfect choice for the discerning gentleman, like me and Satto[1]

[1] Simon K doesn't count cos his will be chopped in for something
else when the fuel light finally comes on.

I might have been tempted, were it not for the fact that collecting it
would cost approximately twice what it's actual value is and a day out
of my life...and the fact that I've got a rather nice SV650 as a
    trackbike now.

It's probably worth £400 to someone local, but why don't you keep it
as a trackbike, it owes you virtually sod-all?

Having had experience of both, it's easier and cheaper to get parts for
    a 10R than a 955i, so I'd say that he should get a 10R as it'll be
    cheaper in the long run.

Stop fucking around and just do it. You know you want to. There's a
whole world of fun waiting for you, you just have to go and get the key.

If not, you might as well embrace being an old fart now, buy a mongvan
and start the transition to "Northern Auvache".

  7. Hello yourself big boy.
    Well, go on then.

I have a job, a proper one and not one of those that my councillor makes
me do. She doesn't by the way.

There is not now has never been nor will there ever be such a thing as a
    Northern Auvache.

That's why I put it in quotation marks. It's a describing phrase or, if
you will, a logical rather than a physical.

Although calling it logical seems entirely wrong.

Because I don't do enough trackdays[1] to justify shelling out on a new
    rear-shock and new forks.

Add to that I've got nowhere to keep it and the constant ear-ache I'll get
for having 2 bikes and it's really not worth the hassle.

[1] Nor will I get permission slips for enough trackdays

AndrewR <> had a sudden rush of blood
to the head and wrote in @l70g2000hse.googlegroups.com:
I had one for over 3 years. It was great at everything, which made it
boring in the end. Mine was ultra reliable, but I think it was an
exception. They'll do 139mph and no more, but they'll do that for 200
miles in total comfort between fuel stops.

I didn't have the hard luggage but a huge Givi topbox instead, which
was more than enough for me. I fitted a pair of Remus race cans and
it sounded like the devil was riding into town.

Because they're torque-tastic they wheelie a lot and in-line fours
can't catch you when you're blatting up the midi pyrenees.

Overall a superb general use bike but you can't be much of a hooligan
    on it.

Forget the 10R, it'll be a bit too much for you.

You'd be better off buying something sensible like an MV.
    I'm great.

Where were you at the weekend when my idiot son was looking for
someone to do late night drinking at the RBCS?

    Only a bit?

Don't forget I'm a puff who falls off everything.
    Hmmm, daily commuter?
I was mainly not there. In fact I was entirely not there. None of the
bands grabbed me and since only cunts were going I decided to give it a
    miss.

    I'll be there next year.

Is this "manage" as in "be in charge of", or "manage" as in "cope" ?
