If you've never been, then no not really - they demolished the Marquis in
1988 and built Toymaster on the site.

It used to be one of the original rock/biker pubs in Worksop during the
    1970s and 1980s.
Someone had this idea of a reunion for the ex-regulars.
They've sold around 200 tickets so far' surprisingly - I didn't think that
many of us were still alive :-D

Yeah. I'm from Worksop. I'm one of those sad bastards who still lives within
a half mile of where he was born......

You fancy meeting up sometime then?
Doubt it. The chavs/plankton seem to have started thriving in the last 12
    months.
Is he a pest control officer?

I moved out of Worksop 3 years ago. I lived behind the Little Chef, in

One side of the A57 is really nice. The other is the main town and not
so nice. I lived in the nice bit, which is a very very small part of
    Worksop.

Rope lives elsewhere, near Worksop in the sticks where the inbreds are.

I thought so, as did everyone who visited me there. It had a real
community spirit without being intrusive, and crime was virtually
unheard of. I had the best neighbours there that I've ever had. It did
help that almost everyone up my road had a bike.
    Precisely

Ahh! That'll be Knigton Fields. Ten-bob millionaires the fucking lot of
    them.
An estate full of strippers and schoolteachers.
    Amongst others.

    Inbreds....Near Worksop....Well.....
    That'll either be Manton than.
Or maybe Gainsborough which isnt Worksop at all really.

It's true though. I lived in the nicest part of Worksop. It was new,
clean, tidy, crime-free and a joy to live in. I knew that the rest of
Worksop wasn't as nice purely by reading the local rag and driving
through places like Manton. Overall the whole town was a lot nicer than
people from outside the town made it out to be. In nearly 3 years of
living there and drinking in town on a weekend I didn't see one punch
up, which is a marked contrast to the 3 or 4 I'd see every night if I
    went out in Bedford.

It's all relative. While the other side of Worksop may not be as nice as
where I lived, it's all a damn sight better than Bedford.

I really liked Worksop and would move back there in a flash given the
chance. I'd certainly look for a place around where I lived before
because I know I really liked it there and still have friends in the
    area.
Absolute rubbish. As Darsy once said, I'm a consumate professional when
    at work.
Think 'open books'. You lay yourself wide open for it.
But you're not a local, you're a relatively new incomer. Why should this
bother you? I thought it was the local inbred youths who were giving
    your family grief?

Dunno any more. I used to pop along to a couple of local bike meets and
have chips in Matlock bath on a Sunday. Apart from that I pretty much
    roda alone or visited ukrmers.
I could tell you, but then I'd have to send the elves to tickle you.

Look. I'll set the record straight.
I'm born and bred (NOT inbred, before you start!) in Worksop. Its a fucking
dump. All of it. There isn't a nice part any more!
I stopped going into the town centre of an evening cos I cant be arsed with
    all the trouble.
There's always some twat in, either a burberry baseball cap or a pair of
matalan sports trousers wanting to take a pop at you.
Its not fucking worth it anymore.
Its not much better out of town.
We spend three and a half grand on new doore and windows for the house.
They hadn't been in for more than two weeks before some twat smashed part of
the trim on the front door!

There were only two proper "biker" pubs in town: The Frog & Nightgown and
    The Lock tavern.
The Frog is now run by some obnoxious little twat who tried to drop me and
my boys in it with the pigs.
The Lock is now "trendy" and called The Waterfront and a refuge for every
piece of scum ever put on Pubwatch.

    Rant Over.

That's really sad to hear. A total contrast to the Worksop I knew not so
long ago. Me and my boss used to end up in that club at the bottom of
town, Avenues?. I liked it in there, eveeryone was so approachable and
you could stand and chat to some unknown burd without having a drink
thrown over you. Do the same in Bedford and you'd have a glass across
your face before you'd got the first sentence over with.

I'm honestly saddened to hear it's gone downhill so fast. I loved it up
there. Where I lived, in St Annes Way it was a proper little community,
but not in an obtrusive way.

Well. There are still people like that around. They just don't bother with
    the town anymore.
Even my boys (19y.o. and 22y.o.) don't bother too much.
You don't get glassed in town, but you can't stand up against 5 onto 1 odds
    for very long can you?

Worst place I *ever* went drinking in was Hull.
Now that place is *really* bad.
Piss taking aside, its not a bad bit of Worksop. Did you know any of this
lot: Marc Coupe, Dave Tomlinson, Dave Wild or Sylvia May?

    Amusing Footnote :
One mate of mine bought a house down there when they were first built and
paid cash for it. I mean *really* paid cash for it: He walked into the sales
office and dropped a briefcase on the desk with 75grand in it and said "I
want that one" (Well almost like that ;-) But he *did* pay in 50quid notes)

I've had some really good nights out on the piss in Hull with my friend
Mika. It's a bit rough there, but not really any worse than a lot of
other towns I've been to. Still beats Bedford for friendliness imo.
