    Apparently the wheel broke. You could see that the centre was missing when
    it went walkabout, but I wonder if that could be because the wheel had a
    wobble on before it broke free. A badly fitted wheel (no nut retaining clip
    installed) would have the wheel moving/rattling/wobbling all over the place
    putting stress where it wasn't designed to have any.
