  1. Good news for most! Bad news for me.

Due to dodgy app that I installed to get round corporate firewall, I
may not be posting for a good long time. Agent's not happy accessing
the server if it has to go through the firewall.

And I was *so* trying to get into September's top 20 stats...

You'll have to clusterinsult without me, I'm afraid.

  3. try mozilla? my corporate monkeys seem to think it's just a web browser.
Failing that - google groups? and if google groups are blocked on your
    proxy try http://www.megaproxy.com :)

Failing that - I wonder if anyone round these parts has a server with
news feed? Frag? if so, and they were feeling extremely generous, they
could open a port friendly to your firewall so you could access.

Google groups? Or ask Monkey, he pointed me in the direction of a web
based thing some time ago. More up to date than google, but I dunno if
    you could post.

Tried Xnews? Unzip the files to a folder, which are small enough to fit on
a floppy and run the executable.

    Works on Cardiff Uni network.

Well I'm actually writing some software ATM that's designed to get around a
sort of related problem... it could sit on any machine outside your
firewall and would act as a relay enabling you to disguise news as, say,
http[1] and if I ever drag myself out of the pub for long enough to finish
it I'll post you a copy.

[1] Not strictly what it was designed for but it could be misconfigured to
    do this.

If you've got broadband at home you can use some dynamic ip software
and httport. Not blindingly fast but it's OK for news.

Umm, I would have thought that if the TCP port (119) is closed on the
firewall, it ain't gonna matter a whole lot which client software is being
    used...

  16. you mean it's not?!
I started on Google groups - mainly posting at work means I have to
wait a whole day to get the responses. Kind of cuts out
    'conversation'.
Hhhhmmm...given that the firewall chucks out msn, it's unlikely, but
emails appreciated if you think it might work.
