Maybe not classic, but...

  1. Has anyone a light half-dolphin type fairing to dispose of? Legshields mayhap?

Or even a very flimsy Dolphin? (Prefer those to a dusbin fairing.)

I'm putting a light little chair onto a Honda RS 250, so you get the picture?

I'll also need a wheel (or a hub) for the chariot, but that'll have to
wait until it is tipped - I mean, delivered, and I can measure the
    spindle.

That wee combo is for use while I rebuild my R80 and Berger chair.

  4. Charge him for it, Rusty! He can claim it on expenses when he
sells the story and $DEITY knows you need whatever you can get outside of
    the DWP fuckups.

  6. I'll put up some pics on the wibble as I progress.
Ah. Hum. I can see a Chair-launching URMC moot in the offing innit.

Seems I might have to get the 8 galleon and 10 galleon carboys
    a-bubbling innit.

When you see the state of the chair you'll not expect results tomorrow,
    though.

The vendor thought he remembered having a 'little sidecar on top of my
shed, but I don't know if there's a frame with it...'

    Get the picture?

Well, there *WAS* quite a nice little sprung frame (FSVO nice), but
there is no wheel. TAAAW, some bodger has welded (not very well) a
    bracket onto the swan-neck.

Now I've acquired a little gas welding set (Oxy Turbogas, whatever
turbogas is...) I might make some of the fittings, if I can't find
somewhere that has them in stock.

  7. Ok, got the slidecar now.

    You can admire it at:
    http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/hi-fi/slidecar/slidecar_001r.jpg
    http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/hi-fi/slidecar/slidecar_002r.jpg
along with certain garden works and improvements.

It actually had a hub in the boot, but, it needs new taper-rollers...

Looking at said hub, I'd guess that it fits something like a Frod
    Angular wheel.

It's going to be fun mating this heap with the rather tidy-ish RS 250. I
shall redecorate the frame and pod before sticking everything together,
    rilly I will, guv, 'onest.

    Pic of RS 250 later.

Other progress will be reported as or shortly after it happens.

Note to the wise: don't hold your breath too long innit.

  10. It wasn't intentional - but when you're offered a more-or-less complete
    wreck - er, I mean a more-or-less complete sidecar, a woodworking lathe
and a billhook with a dodgy handle for £25 quid, you rise to the
    challenge, dae ye no', Jimmy?
OK - to compound the challenge, this is what is going to pull it. (FVSVO pull)

    http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/hi-fi/slidecar/bike_001.jpg

Remember, this is only intended as a stopgap, but as someone much wiser
than I said: "There is nothing so permanent as the temporary."

I am not going to put up a pic of the hub. I might start getting a reputation.

Will have to strip the paint from the slidecar with thinners: ordinary
paint-strippers specifically exclude using them on GRP.

Joints on the chassis will have the red diseasel treatment, and
afterwards, a lick or a splatter of paint. Cellulose or whatever they
use on cars these days should be OK on GRP, shouldn't it?

(My last proper sidecar was a Swallow, and made of aluminium, though I
did have a Watsonian scooter box-thingy which I attached to a Douglas
    T35 Mk IV.)

  13. Well, I was emboldened by two things: firstly, my 1943 Matchless G3
pulled a chair as if to the manner born, and I doubt if it had the
torque the RS 250 will deliver - except maybe, at thump - - thump - -
    thump revs.

Secondly, by someone I know running round for a long time with a 175cc
    two-stroke and chair.

  14. The difference is, no doubt, that you aren't being shafted by necessity?
If I want to go anywhere I have to catch a bus ATM, which is a bit of a
bummer if you want to acquire a large(ish) lump of something-or-other.

There's a limit to the range of me and a wheelbarrow, or me and a sack
    barrow innit.

If you want it to ultimately look less shit than it does now, I suggest
you do some reading up on restoring fibreglass, or find a friendly TVR
or Corvette bodywork specialist to talk to. Tom at corvette.co.uk can
be very helpful if you catch him when he's not flat out. Or try pinging
Beav on UKRM - I know his son's done at least one Corvette.

I knew a guy in the States who had a mid-1970s 'Vette.

Truly gorgeous car, which he'd restored and kept looking beautiful
(two-tone grey/silver). He said the biggest problem was stopping the
paint cracking at the joins in the bodywork, as it was panels rather
than a complete shell. Sure enough, if you looked closely where
indicated, you could (just) see the joins, on the hard angles over the
front and rear wheel arches. Weird way to do it, or at least, it seemed
    so to me.

Mine's an '81 so similar shape, but desperately in need of a respray,
which I'll do when I've built a new garage. The gel coat's cracked all
over the place. You can get one-piece front ends
    (http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=10892&dept_id=1430) &
one-piece wings, which seem to make a lot more sense than the panels
that stop halfway along the wheel-arch.

    Hmm. I bought a D1 for a fiver.

Sold it to my brother for a fiver when he got a licence.

He sold it back to me for a fiver when he got a car. (Austin Ruby)

    When I got a Clubman's Venom I sold it to 16-year-old twins - for a fiver.

I have no idea of its eventual fate.

It was known as Wooooooooooohrrrr. You kicked it over.
    Put-put-put-put-Wooooooooooohrrrr.

Then you kicked it over again, with the same result.

    Eventually, it went.

50 mph flat out, up hill and down dale, and I used to do the Bolney -
Hornchurch and return journey once a week. And before you ask - no, it
    didn't take that long...
