Stolen from a Fiat Coupe forum poster, who stole it from a Peugeot 205GTi
forum, who ... well, you get the gist, it's doing the rounds, but I don't
    think it's been here yet.

A test on basic mechanical principles (which made 'O' level physics seem a
    very long way away)

The pass mark is 80% - I'm a fuckwit with anything mechanical and got 66%,
so anybody lower than that should feel very bad indeed.

Complaints on coupe forum suggest that one of the answers near the end is
    wrong, so beware.

Lost the will to live after about 8 questions. I like to think I'd have got
    more than 50% though heh.

Question 48, about why air enters a normally aspirated engine.

The quiz has the correct answer as being "suction from the piston going
down", but "atmospheric pressure" is a better answer it has been argued.

Ah well, you see, I did it sober and got 66% and then did it again last
night, after I'd had a few (but without gaining any additional knowledge)
    and got 78%.

400 points = 80% in the cold early light. I found the cog gearing and
    pulley leverage questions the hardest.

I should have concentrated that hard at school :/

I agree that on the induction question that the air moves because
atmospheric pressure is higher than the pressure in the cylinder. This
*sucking* thing is a load of crap.

Is the correct answer. The descending piston creates a partial vacuum
in the cylinder, but it's the atmospheric pressure (now greater than
the pressure in the cylinder) that pushes the air in. That's the
"physics" answer, I guess. The "mechanics" answer is that as long as
the air gets in there, who gives a flying **** whether it's blown or
    sucked.

    As it were.

92% - but a lot of it you could get by common sense and doing a lot of
twirly movements with your fingers on the screen.

I would have argues that the later question with the big fulcrum in the
middle was incorrect as there was only a viable answer if you took it
that the force was acting at the extreme edge of the mass not the centre

  18. Cog gearing was easy for me - pulleys are a closed book to me, and I'm
    crap with electrickery as well.
