Media blasting rotors?

<I'm sorry if this is a repeat post, it does not appear to have made it to
    RMT after 2 weeks>

I have some otherwise very nice rotors for my KZP that have a little scale
build-up that I'd like to clean up. Are there any gotchas to watch out for
when doing this? I'd also be interested in understanding which media
represents the "best practice" for this operation.

    Thanks.

Thanks.. these are already off the bike and the easiest thing would be a
media blast, since someone else will be doing that. Just didn't want to
miss the opportunity to learn something here if there was indeed something
    to learn.

Depends on how tough the scale is. Crushed walnut shells can remove most
kinds of dirt & corrosion without harming the metal. If what you're trying
to remove is tougher than that, you'll have to move up in the abrasiveness
of the media. Best bet is to start off with something harmless like walnut
shells & move up only as needed -- too much abrasion would not be good. Make
sure the blasting is done *smoothly* -- you don't want to create low spots
    ....

Mike, I don't know if you've done this yet, but you may want to research
further. I think I have read/heard somewhere that blasting or surface
grinding does not create a good braking surface. I could be wrong, check it
    out.....

  5. I thought that was an affliction of the pads.

Thanks Hank. I've had the same experience Mark (below) has in that nobody
around here is open to turning a bike rotor. They're just a bit rusty but
otherwise healthy. And when it comes to grooves, I'm in the "grooves are
fine with me" camp... more braking surface:)
