MELB Ride Day - Sun 5th Oct - Dandenongs and Beyond (Marysville via Reefton)

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Mark Micallef, Sep 29, 2003.

  1. WHERE

Kicking off from the basin roundabout, up the delightful twisties to
Sassafras, hang a left and a right, through Olinda and the backroads to the
Warburton Hwy, cruise for a bit then up the mighty Reefton and onto the
famous (or is that infamous) Marysville Bakery for a relaxed lunch.

    RETURN

The easy way via the Black Spur and Lilldale, or back down the Reefton. I
    take votes now!

    START

Olinda Basin Roundabout (I will look up the Melway Map ref if I get some
takers), Sunday 5th October, at 10 am for 10.15 am departure. Full tanks
    please (Acrosses take note!).

    FINISH

Lillydale early afternoon (if we take the Black Spur return option), or
return to Melbourne via Warburton late afternoon (if we take the Reefton
    Spur option).

    CAVEAT: WEATHER PERMITTING!

If Sunday morning you wake up and it's pissing rain, hail, cats, dogs,
howling winds and darkness, armageddon, etc... rent a movie or some games
for your nintendo / playstation and stay at home, 'cause I will!

  3. Hey John,

There are a couple of challenging sections on this ride, but newbies are
fine so long as you ride at your own pace (don't try to keep up with faster,
more experienced bikes). I've seen one smartarse throw his CBR250RR off the
side of the Reefton by going faster than he could handle it. It took ten
guys half an hour to push that bike back up onto the road (minus all its
"wobbly" bits), so please don't follow in his example, and you'll have lots
    of fun.

    See you there!

    Cheers,
    Mark

You can put me in as provisional for this. I'll be working very late
on Saturday night. Whether I turn up will depend on how rested I am.

  9. Forecars for tommorow:

Local morning fog then a mostly cloudy day with just the risk of
a brief shower or two. Light winds.

    Min 7 Max 18

As promised, the starting point is the roundabout on melway map 65 at ref
G7. There's some shops there and a small carpark, which is the usual meet
and greet spot. See you there!

    Cheers,
