Bloke on the project I'm on ATM. Must be mid forties plus, if not mid
fifties.

Stereotypical mid life crisis. He's getting divorced and has decided he
wants to ride a bike.

Specifically a Harley.

So he's just taken his CBT, and is going to do DAS with the aim of
spending about 4-5k on a Sportster.

Any guesses on what his insurance is going to be?

Surprisingly cheap if SO is anything to go by. She did DAS a few weeks
ago, & a 'test quote' on my 955 Tiger was under 200 quid.

my current re-quote for FC on the combined policy for the ZX12R and
LC4 is £294, which I don't think is bad, given that it's in London,
and the bikes aren't garaged.

Even my insurance was moderately sensible this year. Think it's the
first time in living memory I've paid less than a grand to insure both
bikes and the car.
