Mildly pretentious quote...

  1. .... but I love it:

"The ultimate responsibility of the pilot is to fulfil the dreams of the
countless millions of earthbound ancestors who could only stare skyward
    and wish."

I have already made the greatest contribution to the fight against climate
change that I can make: I have decided not to breed. Now quit bugging me and
go and talk to the Catholics.

    Whatever happened to

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
    ...

Too many illiterate pilots these days <hrmmph>

  5. I'm going to put that in my garage, only substituting 'Mole grips' for
    'sky' and 'Stilson' for 'sea'.

    Whatever happened to

All you need to do is take one step into the sky
Give yourself to gravity, give death another try
    In free fall, free fall

The wind will take your frightened face and force your mouth to smile
While destiny is on your case, the gods look up your file

The clouds are coming at you like a host of angels wings
For thirty seconds of freedom squared you've cut the puppet strings
    In free fall, free fall

    Too few progheads these days.

  8. Different medium but a nice quote:

"From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders.
    He is bolted to earth.
But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free."

    Rubbish!

Going up's easy, it's getting out when things go wrong that's the tricky
    bit:

    # There's only one course of action
    # Left for me to take
    # I've tried every switch selection
    # That might control this state
    # I think for my protection
    # I'd better make it straight
    # Into ejection
    # Better tell base, ejection
    # That I think it's a case for ejection
    # Blown into space, ejection
    # Protect my face, ejection

The concept of you two donning headbands and afghan coats, then
expressing yourselves through the medium of interpretive dance,
    amuses endlessly.

Ah yes, the original Spagthorpe riders club.

The club was behind the formation the now infamous
    Spagthorpe underground railway.

Club members setting out on a journey, would ride their pride
and joy to the abode of the nearest member on the intended
route. There they would leave their gentleman's conveyance in
the capable hands of a fellow club member to effect the
necessary repairs. They would then 'borrow' their fellow
members steed to reach the next nearest club member, en-route,
    and so on.

Statistically the club calculated that with enough market
penetration the system would balance and the proud owner
of any particular Spagthorpe would have his steed returned
    by another club member.

Unfortunately, the scheme had to be abandoned some three short
months after its inception. Due to the warranty related nature
of most journeys, it had the unforseen effect of migrating the
entire Spagthorpe marque, back to the factory gates.

The system of chits and IOUs was sadly never wholly documented
and there are still, to this day, arguments over the ownership
    of particular models.

I think you'll find it's the ground directly under the sky that's not
    particularly forgiving of mistakes.

  20. I never really got on with Hawkwind. Enlighten me - which of their
stuff is best to start with for a (mostly symphonic) prog fan?
