Classy job there Sky News. I'm on the edge of my seat for the high score table of rescue times.
Oh, yes. Some wag twitted this: They're sending a medic down first? Does that mean Sky's counter will change to "-1 of 33 rescued"?
El País in Spain has a little counter too. No such class for El Mercurio in Chile. I think I'll wait for the movie to see what happens.
They'll have to change it somewhat: One of the miners will have to replaced by someone trying to get to hospital for a life-saving operation. Two will have to be replaced with a couple who's marriage is going through a rough patch. One will have to be replaced by a priest/nun/whatever whose faith is failing. One will have to be replaced by a really annoying 13 year old kid who thinks he knows everything. And I mean *really* annoying. Bruce Willis will wear a white t-shirt and be the first down the escape shaft to save them.
<VVBG> You forgot that, somewhere along the line, there'll be a pet or a teddy bear that needs rescuing too.
You also forgot the coward who puts the entire operation in jeopardy but is the first one to die. (nice to see doctor who break with that tradition and have the cowardly moneymad one be one of the ones to survive in the titanic episode)
Dunno what's been happening as I'm *trying* to get to Bulgaria, but when I got up this morning, BBC news was showing riveting live footage. Of a winch For nearly an *hour* -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) 116 Giulietta 3.0l Sprint 1.7 GTV TS GT 3.2 V6 Triumph Sprint ST 1050: It's blue, see. www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk
Still doing it, with occasional re-runs of "here's a winch from earlier". http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10318089
Fucking *wonderful*. Journalism at its best. -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) 116 Giulietta 3.0l Sprint 1.7 GTV TS GT 3.2 V6 Triumph Sprint ST 1050: It's blue, see. www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk
Sky news offered a fascinating insight earlier: The pulley is slowly turning, and turning.... ...this means that the capsule is descending steadily down the shaft.
I decided that the 2nd test match between India and Australia was much more interesting and when that was finished I returned to doing insignificant little jobs on my Tenere. No doubt I'll find out when they're all on the surface but I'm not really interested enough to watch it going on.
Well done India! And the Aussies are now ranked 5th, one place below England! Quite. "Latest: Víctor Zamora becomes the fourteenth man to be rescued from Chilean mine" *yawn*
If I was in charge of that broadcast, I'd be so tempted to loop it and then suddenly speed up the footage. "My God! God! It isn't supposed to be going that fast, is it? IS IT!?
I think the best bit will be if the chap with both wife and mistress waiting realises he's in trouble and asks to be sent back down.
Or reverse it: "And here's the 15th miner, Juan Gonsales about to emerge..." <fx:reverse> "Oh no, he's falling back!..." <fx:forward> "No, it's all OK, he's coming out now..." <fx:reverse> "Arrghhh! He's going back in again!..." etc.
A Welsh mate of mine couldn't understand why his mother was so bothered by the whole thing until she told him that her father had once been trapped underground for nine days when a coal seam caught fire.
It was worth watching it for the look of sheer disgust on Pontings face. Nearly as much fun as watching paint dry.
