Minging headaches

I've had one nearly every day for the past 3 weeks. New glasses are
thought to be the cause, so I've booked an appointment with the local
eye clinic to be checked over again because the specs I have appear to
be the correct prescription, but my double vision is coming and going
    with them on.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what I can take to clear the headaches
    - Migraleive isn't coming close, nor is Murofen Migraine strength.

  4. Nurophen Plus?

    Syndol?

Both of those help me immensely. But the source of my headaches and
migraines probably isn't the same source as yours.

No, the old ones now feel worse than these are.
I am very careful with any prescribed drugs. I detest having drugs like
that in my system, even though I know I need them.

    Tried - failed
Is it available without a prescription?

Paracetamol works very different from those, blocking the pain at the
brain end rather than the source, so you might get lucky there. Most
of the other NSAIDs (aspirin etc.) all work in similar ways to the
Nurofen[1] you've tried, and if that does nothing they're not likely
to either. Then again, as long as you're not double-dosing[2] without
doctor's advice you might give them a try.

    <googles migraleve>

Just checked and found that actually Migraleve is largely
Paracetamol-based, so perhaps the above isn't so relevant, but I CBA
    to delete it.

In any event the best bet in the short term is to ask your pharmacist
to recommend something, explaining as you have above. It's their job,
    after all.

[1] Unless there really is something call Murofen that I've not heard
    of.
[2]Using paracetamol plus an NSAID like aspirin or ibuprofen is fine,
but two NSAIDs together is not. Unless your doctore says so.

The prescription might be OK but if you are getting double vision the lenses
mighht mot be centred correctly in the frame.

Do you have prism, I forget?

15 prism , which has been verified is in the correct place, i.e the
centres are correct. They did make me a new set with marginally
different centres and I tried those, but they were exactly the same as
    these.

go to your GP. There may be something else as well as the spectacles e.g.
    high blood pressure.

Anything with zolmitriptan in it - works for me. I think it's available
    without prescription but effing expensive.

Have you got any other symptoms? Where's the headache located?

Quite a few people I know have been having headaches centralised round
the back of their neck and over the eye(s) that lasted for days and it
appears to be (according to the two who bothered with a doctor) to be
some sort of low grade virus.

I had a over a week of it and found that sinutab or the like with
    paracetamol helped.

If its not that, you could try Imigran? It's meant to be good but I
clobber my migraines with Buccastem M (because I get nausea as well as
vision problems) and painkillers so I haven't tried it.

Well I hope the clinic get you sorted but in the meantime...

It might make little or no difference but try wearing the specs with the
lens tilted in a bit more at the bottom and if you can without breaking them
bend them at the nose so they wrap around the head a little more.

A really odd thing i find. If i ever wake up with a minging headache in the
morning, sprinkle a few drops of cold water on yer pillow, have ten mins on
it & it works a fucking treat & I have no idea why.

Mmmh, i'll have to put that to the test, next time someone complains their
glasses give them a headache i'll shove a wet pillow in their face.

I'll let you know how I get on! :)
